The kids aren’t all right, but more and more young men are seeing red.

A recent survey by Monitoring the Future, an academic project that has been studying American youth for decades, found that 23% of 12th grade boys identified as conservative in 2022, while only 13% described themselves as liberal.
The study, by the University of Michigan, was first conducted in 1976, at which point just 17% of high school boys saw themselves as conservative and 25% identified as liberal.

Conservative identification went up among young men in the 80s and early 90s but had hit a steady decline until recent years showed a new trend to the right.

Their female peers, meanwhile, have gone more to the left, with 30% identifying as liberal in 2022, compared to 12% conservative.

In New York State, conservatives under 40 — many of them men — have been getting increasingly involved.

Another very interesting survey which shows an increase in young men who identify as conservatives, especially in the last few years, and after there has been a continuous decline since the early 90s. Traditionally young people are likely to be more attracted to the left wing ideas until reality hits them very hard.

I would be interested to know their reasoning behind the choice to move more towards the right.

We can make our assumptions, we could probably get pretty close, but hearing from them as to why they chose what they had from the beginning, and knowing the turning point at which they decided to go the other way would be very intriguing.

Could be something simple, could be a more complex issue that drove them the other way.

And at the same time, will be interesting to see all of those left leaners on here try to denounce this study as false or biased/rigged.

I ve noticed what you say earlier.
Another poll that shows Trump ahead of Biden has been denounced and denied. I mean denialism isn't a good guide in life but I am sure this survey can also be denounced and denied accordingly.

They don't want to believe the truth, they deny whatever stands between them and getting what they want.

They have "their truth", but want to ignore and denounce reality, but will "accept" reality when it's convenient for them.

I brought up the 2016 Elections when most polls and pretty much every discussion was made about a comfortable won for Hillary.

There are many reasons why younger people can become more conservative. Realistic policies, values & ethics, good politicians, anti-woke sentiment, among some of them.

Here is a really good breakdown of the party affiliations going back to 2004, done monthly.

Gallup

The only group that is growing are the independents. Both the republicans and the democrats are losing numbers.

If you're a straight white male between the ages of 18 and 35 or so in America, your entire life you've been told that you're a racist, sexist, misogynistic, homophobic racist nazi etc/etc/etc...

Then you were told to go to college just to find out that you're the only group of people not getting free handouts from the government

And then you had to get a job to pay back your loans and found out you're not only the only group not getting loan forgiveness, but you're also the last in line for any new roles, promotions, etc because we need to promote women and minorities over the best person for the job.

If you were so brave/dumb as to have children in this country, your children are now getting groomed and coerced into gender dysphoria, exposed to the whole LGBTQUIAMIPLMNOP++ movement instead of learning basic math, geometry, history, or anything actually useful.

It's pretty easy for me to see why young men might look at this and say hey- why the hell have I been told to vote against my own interests my entire life?
I'm just glad they're seeing it. I had to get out of college and into the workforce to understand how stacked the deck is right now.

I find your last statement very ironic, give that I went the complete opposite direction. Believed a lot in what the right touted when I first started voting and was finished university, entering the work force. As my life went on I've moved left towards what would be US Center (I think you guys call them "moderates"). But definitely backwards for me.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

If anything I think young men are leaning a lot more liberal socially, maybe fiscally they are more conservative, and that’s is where the independents come in.

I think the article is saying more young males are turning towards the 'right'.

And it's no mystery, I wonder how many of them found guidance from people like Andrew tate?
America is at a political crossroads right now, it's divided, and when things get strange young men tend to become marginalized and will fall in line with more masculine social groups. Currently the 'left' has seemingly abandoned the workers populist groups, and Trumps campaign targeted them, scooping up their votes, following suit would be their kids, grandkids, etc.

That's my guess.

Probably because they all got a front row view of what socialism actually is during Covid. Not surprised at all by this.

I think it might be ignorance. They heard something on the mainstream media, so it must be true. That's how youngsters become liberals - it's all the MSM pushes.

They'll use the new buzzword, "It's just an outlier."

Still my statement isn't ironic but based on the trend in the last few years.

You went in the opposite direction.
And so what?

Good try honey, I don’t know one white male in my circle who’s been called a racist, or any of that crap you listed. But, I don’t surround myself with whiners and tiny men. You sir, sound like a tiny man, whine, whine, whine. How do you not see how unappealing that is?

Girls prefer guys who aren’t hard core Maga. Thank god.

I don't think what you saw during COVID was socialism. Socialism is defined as "an economic and political system based on collective ownership of the means of production. All legal production and distribution decisions are made by the government in a socialist system. The government also determines all output and pricing levels and supplies its citizens with everything from food to healthcare."

Ownership and decision making concerning production (except maybe the vaccines, as the government was quite involved with that) didn't change for much.

White men as a whole have been labeled that way for as long as I can remember. If your "circle" chooses to be blind to that fact, god for them, but that doesn't change the stigma that has been created around white men as being the "enemy" to everyone.

Your response shows how little you really know about the subject. Looking from the outside in is never a good way to view the world.

There is a vast difference between pointing out reality and whining. What you're doing is whining, what lordcomac did was point out reality.

Girls prefer boys, women prefer men. But your side can't tell the difference so you wouldn't know. That's understandable.

Well I only believe polls are accurate if they help my confirmation bias. If not then it must be fake news.

Without diving into this polls parameters it's hard to tell anything about it. A poll like this can be swayed on location of those polled alone.
