The question I have is this..... who is behind this, what can only be described as an ongoing invasion?
160 boats in just over 24 hours to a tiny little Italian island???? What else would you call it????
This is feeling far too organised to be put down to just 'fair weather' for crossings!

I do agree Raggedy that the West in some ways is realising what it sowed yes. We gave the natives medicine to prevent death disease, this led to the insane population growth in a region that was very lightly populated. In many ex British colonies the population has gone through the roof while at the same time we gave them agriculture yet this was never going to do enough to feed them, hence we now have this invasion. But this is too simple as a single reason, by your reckoning we should blame a Rabbi from the Galilee for inventing a new path way of living in light and love, his vision being taken 2000 years down the line by the missionaries during the 19th and 20th centuries into the heart of Africa and Asia. We can all look back yes and there are reasons for sure yet modern warfare is playing its part in forcing people to move to Italy, Putin knows this works always has done, at the same time flooding Europe with Slavs from Ukraine, etc, Sunni's from Syria. It's a genius plan (from Russia's point of view) that will cause internal conflict within Europe leading to the rise of right wing parties. Russia perfected this plan 100 years ago when it forcibly pushed millions and millions of East European Jews into central and western Europe and on to the America's etc which caused the emergence in of extreme right wing parties everywhere and we know what that led to.......... Arizona, where my home is in the states, was overrun ages ago and our state, more than any other, can testify that the gang violence, cheap drugs (a pill of fentanyl is $0.50 here. I here they go for $10 or $20 elsewhere), and all the other problems that are brought by uneducated illegal immigrants don’t make for the shiny happy people holding hands that the left keeps drawing a picture of…

Lots of the illegal immigrants coming by boats here in the UK are Afghans, Albanians, Romanians, Eastern Europeans, etc.
Ie. not African countries.:
The Italian Red Cross says more than 120 migrants landed on the island of Lampedusa overnight. That's after the arrival of some 7,000 people in recent days. They came from North Africa, overwhelming the island's reception center and setting off a migration crisis for both Italy's far-right government and the European Union. DW's Christine Mhundwa is on Lampedusa, where she found out how some of the new arrivals are coping with the situation.
Lampedusa is an eight square mile island located in the Mediterranean Sea. It is located roughly 70 miles from Tunisia, which actually makes it closer to Africa than Europe. It is a part of Italy and is populated by approximately 6,000 people.
In recent years, thousands of migrant arrived in Lampedusa. In 2013, over 13,000 migrants came to this small island by boat. This is a sharp decrease from 60,000 people that passed through the island in 2011. However, this large influx of migrants continues and puts a large pressure on the island. What is Lampedusa doing to house migrants?
Lampedusa, being a tiny island with a very small population, does not have the resources or the housing to hold the sharp influx of migrants. The remnants of an old naval base are used to help house migrants while they wait to get sent to another part of Italy to have their case heard.
However, this base only has a capacity of 800 people. In some cases, it used to house thousands of migrants. Migrants are supposed to stay for only a few days on the island but reports have shown that most of them stay for two to three weeks before leaving. During the day, migrants wander the streets since the shelters are only meant to be used during the night.
