Media is reporting rumors that Ron DeSantis will declare his candidacy next week

My first thread, apologize in advance if something goes wrong....

In light of the astonishing revelations in the last few weeks on the political front, and the two sides locked in battle to destroy the other side, How does a DeSantis announcement change the landscape on the road to 2024?

I'm happy to see another alternative to Trump throw their hat in the ring, Ron having the strongest numbers among the potentials. I welcome his annoucement

The problem with 2 GOP favorites is that it will split the vote. The Dems are not even going to have a debate, they'll just tell their followers who to vote for and that'll be it.
Some Conservatives don't really like Trump and come election day, that may influence whether they vote at all, giving the Dems a default victory.
A Trump/DeSantis ticket would be something everyone could support, but given the blows traded between them, it doesn't look promising.

The vote will only be split if one of them declares as independent. Which Trump might do. It's also possible that one of the charges against him will keep him off the ballot in some states.

I don't believe the POTUS and VP can be from the same state.

The media are certainly going to be excited. Their ratings go up if there's actually a close race. So expect them to be in the bag for DeSantis. At least until he's on even footing with Trump or clear that he's just another dud.

I would take that one step further and say that the dead skunk, if elected, would run the country better than any America hating Democrat.

Not sure he is crumbling, as much as Trump continues to suck all the oxygen out of the room, on the daily.

Just some observations.

Although Trump is older I don’t remember him being outright against, Trans, LGBTQ+ etc.
Trump was getting a big following in the Latin American community.

Desantis has pretty much declared war on Trans, LGBTQ+
Desantis has made immigrants his enemy
Desantis has declared war against a private business

Trump is getting real old, Desantis is young and full of energy, maybe too much energy?
Polls overwhelmingly favor Trump over Desantis.

I did see an interview where a lot of voters said they would vote Biden in again. To me that is somewhat shocking.

DeSantis is a very popular governor.

Latin Americans are not a hive. Im fairly certain that Cuban Americans in Florida do not all welcome migrants from Mexico and Central America.

Parents in Florida have declared war on LGBTQ+, they don't want their children to be indoctrinated at school. These fears have been stoked to the degree that the voters put pressure on the legislature and some limiting laws for school kids were passed. Now its trans genocide and book banning. Uh, no. It's democracy in action.

The Disney thing? What happened to not supporting corporate welfare? Isn't that what DeSantis is doing? Removing Disney 'welfare' er...tax breaks?
