no one forced those countries to join NATO. They were pushed into it by Putin wanting to bring back the USSR.

Are these the "False Flag" events Biden says Russia will use as an excuse to invade?

I can't really see where this is abnormal. We do exercises all the time to make a point to other nations...even simulated nuclear ones. I doubt they are going to launch a bunch of ICBS or anything like that...it would be a huge waste. Most of these drills involve unarmed bombs that aren't actually dropped. There have been some accidents in the past though from both NATO and Russia where unarmed nuclear weapons get dropped or end up in some accidental separation from immediate control.

No one is trying to mutually assure destruction...

probably.. From what ive seen the false flag was supposed to be a chemical weapons attack, blamed on Ukraine. Something about Chlorine bombs (like the kind used in Syria).

Strategic deterrence forces exercise

February 19, 2022 14:10 The Kremlin, Moscow

The President observed the exercise from the Kremlin’s situation room together with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

Military equipment and personnel of the Aerospace Forces, Southern Military District, Strategic Missile Forces, Northern and Black Sea fleets were engaged in the exercise.

The Aerospace Forces successfully launched the Kinzhal hypersonic air-launched ballistic missiles.

The ships and submarines of the Northern and Black Sea fleets launched the Kalibr cruise missiles and the Tsirkon hypersonic missile at sea and surface targets.

A hands-on launch of the Iskander land-based cruise missile was made at the Kapustin Yar training ground in the Astrakhan Region.

The Yars intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the positional area of the Plesetsk state testing cosmodrome to hit the Kura training ground on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Air-based cruise missiles launched by Tu-95MS long-range strategic missile carriers hit the targets at Pemboi and Kura training grounds.

The Karelia strategic nuclear-powered submarine cruiser of the Northern Fleet launched the Sineva ballistic missile to hit a target at the Kura training ground.

The strategic deterrence forces exercise was scheduled in advance to check the readiness of command and control structures, combat launch crews, combat ship and strategic missile carrier crews to perform the assigned missions as well as the reliability of the strategic nuclear and non-nuclear forces.

The tasks set for the strategic deterrence forces exercise were completed in full, all the missiles hit the designated targets, thus confirming the specified characteristics.

Looks like that one missed its target.

That's interesting, I didn't realize the MiG-31 could carry standoff cruise missiles. I thought they were just interceptors. Learn something new every day.

One Kh-47M2 Kinzhal high-precision ballistic missile with a range of about 2,000 km (1,200 mi), Mach 10 speed.[63][verification needed] It can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads.[64] This gave the MiG-31 long range strike capabilities for the first time, alongside its primary interceptor role.

Hit, miss, near-miss, it doesn't matter. The point got across, "Your ships are not safe in the Black Sea." That was the entire point of publicly broadcasting these videos of the deterrence exercises.

Strategically it makes sense. The more roles a single platform can carry out the more bang for the buck. In the case of the MiG-31, there's not much that can catch it. It's so fast that it can get within launch range, launch, and get back to safety relatively quickly.

Between the speeds of the MiG-31 and the missile itself, it would be a quick strike that's for sure.

The main thing is that all the hype raised around these drills was in vain.

Not a single Russian cruise missile has landed in the US and Europe.

Of course, they wouldn't. The hype is that the exercise could "escalate" situations. I'm not sure how, but that's the "hype."

How interesting!

Russian exercises in Russia escalate the situation.

Placing NATO infrastructure near Russian borders does not escalate the situation.
