The pieces left standing at the small table are a white [hat] king and queen and a black [hat] king and queen. Could this be the Trump's and the Bush's if Dubya testifies? All the other pieces are dead; bishops [religion], knights [military], and rooks [castles = wealthy] plus pawns [everyone else]. This is an incomplete analogy. It could just symbolize that the wealthy and powerful will escape the carnage or a message that the deep state is willing to sacrifice many if some are untouched.

A nova (plural novae or novas) or classical nova (CN, plural CNe) is a transient astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star, that slowly fades over several weeks or many months. Novae involve an interaction between two stars that cause the flareup that is perceived as a new entity that is much brighter than the stars involved.
