A lot of strange things have been happening in Canada in recent decades and this is one, but I would say a change for the better. 65% of Canadians say they would vote for an evangelical while a whopping 85% would vote for a gay leader for President. In the same survey over 70% of Americans still would vote for an Evangelical, while only around half of Americans would support an atheist or transgendered person for President, a huge differential between the two countries. Non religious affiliation has been increasing in America, but we are still the most religious of first world (allegedly) nations, along with being the most populated, highest birth rate and teen pregnancy, etc. I can't help but think if we were less evangelical we would be better off.

Thank God it's a survey done on 1500 people, which is less than 1 percent of the population, probably focused on a certain demographic, told to us by christianpost.com.

Not surprising, Canada is very socialist, and they have no tolerance for Christians.

How about they just elect a normal human being instead of some whack job? No one should be elected that is too far left or right.

Cults do horrible things in politics. I don't blame them.

I wouldn't trust anything christianpost.com says about anything.

What's messed up is there is nothing at all about someone's Religious beliefs that should make them any more or less electable to begin with.

It really shouldn't even be a consideration when electing someone. Why not just keep their personal life out of it.

As a Canadian, I can confidently say these numbers don't reflect Canada. I bet it doesn't even represent my condo complex.

The left doesn't like Islam or Muslims..

Islam just makes a beautiful "pot calling the kettle black " dynamic that the left likes to point out to the religious.

Would vote-in a smurf for Prime-Minister, before an evangelical.

Smurfs take care of each other, and are community minded.

Evangelicals can't even be left alone with a child.

Glad we agree liberals and Global Warming alarmists shouldn't be in politics.

It seems as of late, Canada has embraced reprobate behavior as the norm. I certainly would never consider visiting there again. Sounds like an extension of San Francisco.

That's the problem with North America the voters really are stupid
Faith is irrelevant, intelligent people should be voting in good representatives rather than denomination or non denonimination
Trump, Clinton were not Christian, that's obvious for all to see.
They were not the best options either

Yet they were voted in.

This thread is just illogical and by what we see in the US clearly invalid

Or do people really think Trump and Clinton are evangelicals

The word "Evangelical" annoys me for some reason. Nearly as much as the word "worship". Probably on par with the words "liberal" and "conservative".

The preferences going by those stats actually need to be all inclusive, that is to say one individual could have a mixture of those traits. From a religious and gender point of view the Canadian leader has stated all colours of persuasion are welcome to live in Canada...that should be fair enough.
As far as being religious, I think it is as personal a preference as anything else, while I also think that those who seek to solicit on religion, could in future times be subject to the law, should it ever be seen as problematic to lawmakers in society.

So it doesn't matter the message or the platform.

Just that the person be gay or trans.

Oh Canada!
