I don't know much. I also don't live in the Americas either way.

But the US runs all the brutal dictators and drug cartels all the time?

Last I saw they (the CIA and FBI) were fighting them.

I also saw that the socialism applauded now on US campuses as "radical" once again led to empty shelves in Venezuela.
Just as the ideology did where ever it went.

Then we have a Pope telling poor people they must have children at all costs, even if they can't afford them.

Why do the rich have about two kids, but the poor are encouraged to breed uncontrollably?

Could any of this have an impact on the poverty in some countries?

Then I also wonder if exporting a problem is really solving it, or spreading it.

Where's the proof that the US won't end up just like Mexico in a generation or two?
And then, where will people flee?
To Canada, and live in sub-zero temperature camps?

Tackling the root of the problem? No way that's not the American way. The American way is divide people and spend money on making the problem worse.

I realize that completely. The very best option is the one that is seldom, if ever addressed.

The people that I have worked with over the last decade are comprised of about 85 % immigrants. All from Mexico. I love these guys and gals. They are great folks who have been here for quite a while. They taught me Spanglish.

Do you know what makes them so much better than the lot that are coming here now? They were very proud to finally be US citizens. They had a willingness to assimilate to some extent and embrace their new home.

Assimilation is not a dirty word. It is the only way this can work.

Then, logically speaking, it would be far cheaper to just cut off benefits; and promote self-deportation; reducing incentives for entering illegally and staying indefinitely.

The method i would hope would be more humane than door knocking and arrest, but whatever the cost savings would be very large.

It would create jobs for sure, that is assuming we don't find a 'made in china' sticker on it.

The functionality is in question, what good is a wall when we have airplanes and liberal immigration policy?

Should a wall also be built across Canada?

The thing that sets Trump apart from other candidates, past and present, is that he has not come from the nest of political establishment - he is a ruthless corporate CEO whose entire ethos is based around satisfying his companies shareholders.

Trumps shareholders are the US citizens so if he runs the country like a business instead of an extortion racket as is currently the case, I would actually go as far to say that he will likely see-through his wall to the end product.

The 3 walls you mention in your OP all performed as they were originally designed to - only in later generations did their deconstruction warrant advancement.

The entire country was founded on illegal immigration and genocide. I think people forget that the immigrants are human beings looking for a better opportunity. Not to mention the entire western world thrives because of the exploitation of other countries.

Half the wall built already, littered with underground tunnels running people and drugs through like a siv.

A wall will not diminish the flow of immigrants, unless we are looking at a DMZ a long the entire border.

Easily corrected if you use tech wisely. And Ive always said a DMZ would be a great idea. but the UN might have issues with land mines and auto guns.

No it wasnt Illegal to immigrate back then so your point is wrong. now we have laws and as such they must be respected. Also the indians Killed off a people that was here before them so dont go there. Also Most of the land was bought but th e indians had buyers remorse and got shut down when they tried to reclaim it.

There is legal immigration and illegal immigration. I am 100% pro LEGAL immigration. It is the illegal immigrants that this issue is about. The situation is completely binary...are you here legally or illegally? That is the only thing that matters here.

Also, stop confusing colonization with immigration. They are different things from different eras and none of us were alive when it happened anyway.

Come on, all the superpowers tinker with geopolitical warfare, the US has no moral high ground if it stoops to the level of the Totalitarian East.

In the next global conflict, it is better to be seen as the 'good' guys; nations are on their way out, we are heading towards a Global Scientific Dictatorship; if so be it, I prefer America be in charge.

To do that, requires our leadership to stop selling the country out; and start looking beyond their own selfish life goals.

If your going to build a Mexico wall might as well build a Canadian wall. It's much easier to border cross from Canada with the 5,000 km of prairie and rural areas. Plus it will stop Americans from crossing over when the sh&t really hits the fan.

What?

That is a false assertion to claim Trump will be beholden to the citizens when in office. He goes to the same cocktail parties as all the other political/economic elite.

So what happens in these countries to make people flee is inconsequential?
It is all the fault of the US?

I'm surprised the US hasn't hired Aztec priests to rip out the hearts and wear the skins of illegal migrants.
I mean their Latin culture is so nice, and how they treat Guatemalan migrants (hard labor sometimes, I hear).

But anyway, nobody is responsible for nothing except for the US.

Why the obsession with the costs of mass deportation.

It will cost billions. Big deal.

Giving all of their kids an education is killing the states. Unpaid ER room visits are a burden on our hospital districts. Incarcerating them is a burden. Having them NOT pay into the IRS while they displace a citizen-worker is costing us plenty. (construction pays $20+ / hr. where illegal hiring is ended.)

The wall will cost about like 2 or 3 Nimitz-class aircraft carriers. Mass Deportation will cost as much as another carrier.

We have 11 air craft carriers. The first of the new Gerald Ford-class carriers begins commissioning this year.

The US is not at fault for every little thing that happens in the world. However, the US has the most power to make a difference.

Take Iran, for example. In the 50's, Iran was a democratically elected government, the most westernized nation in the Middle East. They decide to nationalize their oil, to prosper off their own resources, and the US staged a coup to protect American oil interests. The rest is history, and Iran is what it is today, thanks in part to the catalyzing event of overthrowing a democratically elected government, and installing the brutal Shah of Iran.
