Don't think he does believe it but it's the narrative they're predictably going for , I think he will use the attack as justification for the fresh mobilization that was expected following his "re-election" , militarily I think he's limited due to the ongoing actions in the South of Russia and pressure on fuel supplies due to the refinery drone strikes.

Is this meant to be ironic RT? It sure seems like it should be. Indeed there’s nothing to gain from such a double bluff. It only draws attention to the US, allowing Putin to connect them to the attack.

In fact more plausible would be that Putin saw the west’s warning as an opportunity to frame the west by staging a false flag attack himself. Then, as has played out, Putin draws Ukraine into that circle of accusation, hoping for an excuse to use more force on Kiev, tacticals (as an oligarch has just called for relight on cue). Opening that Pandora’s Box would be a mistake that Russia along with everyone else would regret)

I’m not saying that Putin did this. Just that it’s more probably than the US warning of an attack just before they perpetrate it.
