and worrying about "manners and decorum" every time i have to respond to someone who has just made the most idiotic thread about another martian rock.

One really easy way to prevent that from happening is to simply not reply. You don't have to respond to anyone, or any thread. The choice is yours to respond or not.

Mods, you have more patience with people that cannot comprehend the written word than I do. I salute your patience and your kindly answers.

On the other hand perhaps an occasional dose of "What part of 'The threads that are being closed may be restarted' did you not understand!
" may be somewhat beneficial.

We sometimes take ATS personally. It is really a credit to the owners and moderators that they make it feel like our own personal website sometimes.

But in reality, we are in someone else's home.

And sometimes we need to be reminded of that.

Cheers.

Yes, it would be fine. Collaborative posts don't have to be huge or wordy.

They do, however, need to be acceptable to the other members involved in the collaborative effort.

Let me put it this way... suppose someone decided to start posting in ways that were not appreciated by the others involved and complaints were made to staff. How would it look in a story like that if there were post removals scattered all through the thread?

Not good, right?

Collaboration means agreeing to abide by the 'spirit of the venture' and I am totally behind any group that wants to try it. I'm also going to be there to help out if problems come up.

I hate to be that person who can't figure it out themselves, but what kind of bad language are we talking about here? The level of offense with cursing is rather subjective, even the "main list" is hotly debated over whether or not some of those dirty words qualify as simply strong slang, or cursing. It would really go a very long way in helping people, including our ESL members who may struggle with English language slangs/curses, to know which ones to outright avoid using if there was a blacklist of them somewhere. Or does this already exist and I'm blind as a bat & missed it?

You can respond to those threads, and remain completely civil about it. We see it all the time. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean you have to be snarky with them about it. If you don't want the "manners and decorum" to hit, simply remain civil and keep the discussion polite.

Yeah, Zaph and I argue all the time about black triangles and how helicopters are better than airplanes, it's hard -- but I manage to keep my cool.

What if it is not intention? A lot of people read more into some replies or posts than intended?
I'll miss some of the quotes & little toons used to lighten things up.....
Also, what about these?;
= tongue = naughty
= hey = implied interest
= love = speaks for itself
Though I & most only use them for facial expressions of our mood & not their stated meanings, some DO use them for their stated meanings....how would one even know
= how

Thank you Masqua!

I am currently involved in a collaborative piece that is being worked on by ATSers in Jacygirls' 'The Shed". It's so much fun. It's the first I have ever tried collaborative writing and I am loving every second.

Could you also advise on the boundaries of 'roleplay' in non-collaborative pieces please.

For example if I were to post...

"*Tsu leaves Springers thread and goes to BTS"

...as an outro to this post would it be considered a violation of T's n C's?

Thank you very much for your speedy reply to my last post and thank you again for reading this one.

No one is saying that role-play is not acceptable in the proper context for example ... *blushes* to portray a mood, or something funny to add to the thread content or posts in threads designated for that type of content - as long as it's T&C compliant.

What ATS is looking to avoid is running role play commentary on a member's every activity while in a topical thread (adding no significant content), dragging down the data base with long-running never-ending role play, sexually suggestive role play or a "Second Life" / ICQ Chat like atmosphere in the off topic forums at large...we DO have chat for that.

In that context, it's not really on topic is it? It's a serious BB&Q thread on the main forum board.

In BTS/Chit Chat it would be more acceptable. However, as noted, ATS would like to keep those sorts of comments in the appropriate threads - not on every thread in BTS - on topic and and T&C compliant.

About time. Most of it is redundant anyways, but eventually things just sort of repeat themselfs. The circle of life and all, hakuna matata, live and let die.

I've posted an announcement that a new thread needs to be started, so if someone would kindly start a new music thread, it could be the same title, maybe say Part 2....

It is sad to see my thread close, but I do understand totally.

I will not be starting a coffee thread part II

I cannot guarantee the actions of coffee fueled people while they jitter around their keyboards, so I think for myself, it is best to retire my thread totally.

Thank you for allowing it to be around as long as it was!
