Data from the European Space Agency’s (ESA’s) CryoSat satellite which is equipped to measure the thickness of sea ice using radars shows that Arctic sea ice volumes grew by 50 per cent last year. This is due to an increase in ice thickness, since sea ice extent declined by around 3 per cent.

In a statement issued on 5 February, the NSIDC said: “Preliminary measurements from the CryoSat show that the volume of Arctic sea ice in autumn 2013 was about 50% higher than in the autumn of 2012. In October 2013, CryoSat measured approximately 9,000 cubic kilometers (approximately 2,200 cubic miles) of sea ice compared to 6,000 cubic kilometers (approximately 1,400 cubic miles) in October 2012.”

The problem with all this is: It won’t change their minds. You can’t convince these folks with facts. They’re like those religious cults that predict the end of the world and when it doesn’t happen, they claim they read the bible wrong, regroup and set another date for the End Times.

You do know that Gore sold his Television Network, Current TV to Al Jazeera don't you and it was for Money, not because they held the same Values as he did and cared for Mother Earth.

Views that seem to heavily contradict the video that Gore released a few years back, which addressed and supported gay rights.

Possibly the most surprising part of the whole ordeal, however, is the fact that Qatar is one of the world's largest exporters of oil, and is the largest exporter of liquefied natural gas. And anyone who has heard Al Gore's name outside of this article knows that he's a staunch defender of the environment and finds oil repulsive at best. The sale of Current TV to Al Jazeera is an inconvenient truth indeed.

The last paragraph is an opinionated insult so I will ignore it.

However, I have explained that the North Atlantic current is faltering. This means that the movement of warm water that is associated with it is slowing / stopping. Which also means that the Arctic will ice up again.

What caused this?

Arctic ice melt reducing the salinity of the water in the current

The gulf oil spill BP unleashed upon the world.

However, the overal area of ice is still less that it was before and a 50% increase, while good is still not a return to normal.

Glaciers in NZ have recently stopped retreating and even grew a bit for a couple of years, but still over a 20 year period it retreated by nearly 1000 metres. The amount it grew by? Just centimetres.

Climate change or global weirding as some of us are now starting to call it is spasmodic, not linear Looking at one year and saying 'oh the ice grew again, so all climate change believers are wrong' is not looking at the big picture.

Shooting the messenger does not invalidate the message. This is something you Gore haters need to get. Yes, the man has made mistakes, I've already said that in this thread.

Saying because Gore has his faults and sometimes does things that are motivated by politics and money therefore climate change is not happening is like saying because the original Volkswagen was designed by Hitler's regime as a Nazi 'peoples car' you should not buy any Volkswagen ever because you are supporting Hitler.
