ATS Ads

Ok I get it you have to make money somehow.
It's not like I'm paying a lot to sit here and read this website.
But for the love of jeshophat will you turn off the automatic playing of ads?
The other night I minimized the web site and forgot about it.
I'm in the other room and suddenly start hearing voices.
And I live alone.
Thought I had finally lost my mind.
Another time I had the speakers turned up to full when an ad started playing.
The cat was sleeping in front of the speakers and damn near went through the ceiling.
Poor cat took off like a Saturn V rocket.

And when they do start playing I can't even turn them off.
Half the time I can't even find the ad that's making the noise.
The ads are not really not helping. The auto ads actually want to make me visit the site less if I know I'm going to have to deal with the unwanted intrusion of the noise and pop ups.
I hate to say it but it's almost as bad as a porn site now, not that I would know anything about those places

Can you think of some other way of making money that doesn't involve hitting people upside the head?

I would not mind a paid membership (reasonable price) that removes ads (maybe other bonuses with it) and of course it supports ATS.

But I could not stop laughing at the description you leave. That poor cat.

Its a small price to pay for free content. So every so often I click if there is an ad that piques my interest. No I don't need to learn how one small click will save me money on auto insurance IN NEW YORK. When I live in PA.. but the site is able to stay up.

I don't mind the ads off to the sides that require a click...but as of the last couple of days is this new pop up of THE MGM..YOUR ENTERTAINMENT AUTHORITY! Its animated..and it flushes the whole screen out...then crashes my tablet.

So! Thanks to ATS.....THERE IS A FORUM FOR THAT! We call it the RANT section..love the ads or not. It's a necessary need.

Yes necessary need..redundant yes...I would say necessary evil..but we come here for free..at least we are not hit with a spam bomb yet...
Hey...NSA! You get this...no....sorry your power was cut...you say you can't collect advertising info on people to sell to the uppers...

I don't think most of ATS members could afford to pay for the "Add free" version, You would probably be looking at about $US 15.00-$US 20.00 per month to get rid of the adds.

Holy cow! At those rates.... a methed up badger could not compete.

I will concede the really annoying ads only seem to be on the main home page.
Elsewhere on the site t's not so bad.
And the ads are strangely linked to what you have have been browsing for in the past.
I'm trying not to think too hard about how they got all that information.
Which is why 'm gong to make it a habit of searching for Victoria's Secret clothing.
If I'm going to put up with ads I'd at least like something interesting to look at.
Not to mention it will royally screw up the system.

That is just a recreation of game of thrones i bet is very popular search terms for advertisers

I don't agree with a paid membership as suggested when this topic comes up. On other sites it seems to make them more restrictive. The ATS points system, when it was in use perhaps would have been a better trade off instead of subscription. The one add in particular- Jeep, plays annoyingly, reminds me from last year with a women jammering on about something or other. Popup ads can be very annoying no dispute there and it looks like most of us are having similar issues despite our search history when it comes to the advertising.

I feel your pain. I too, have a cat and same issue. I use my iPad a lot and I'm getting ads that I can't get out of and I have to get out of the site and come back in.

Also I'm very careful now when I touch the screen being careful not to touch any ads only for it to happen again, I have to completely close out because I'm stuck and it makes me resent the product actually! I think I'll delete the app on my iPad and bookmark the new topics page instead of going into the main page, hopefully that will help some.
