By the way why would you go from Syria to Detroit I mean I thought they would want to escape a third world violent hell hole?

Imagine opening an American food joint called "The Bomb" in Hiroshima.

Food for thought. . . . (pun)

But does Japan have a equivelent of the 1st amendment?

Would Christians be upset if I opened a noodle shop called "The Holy Ramen Empire" and was run by a bunch of atheists wearing pasta strainers on their heads? All meals would be served with a prayer to the flying spaghetti monster and ended by saying, "Raaaaaaameeeeeeeen" (Instead of amen).

Or how about I start a place that has the BEST food in the world, but all the menu items are named after sex organs or are explicit in nature. In order to have any food, you would be REQUIRED to say the embarrassing/foul/crass names. If you didn't, you would not get served.

I think it would be hilarious to get people to say foul things they'd normally never say because the food is so awesome.

LOL

How about a pizza joint named "Cheesus Crust"

I don't know.

My point being is that in the USA one has the right to open Bin Laden dinner on the ruins of the world trade center. Disgusting but the rights there.

If Japan dont have a first then The bomb Hiroshima dinner could be closed.

ITS GENIUS.

Lets make Detroit a "free" immigration zone.

You want Citizenship?

From a Third world hell hole?

WELCOME TO DETROIT!

Spend 5 years trying to revitalize it and you get full citizenship.

Boom two birds, one stone.

Yes, they do have a right to do so.

I also have a right to think it tacky, distasteful.

That pesky 1st Amendment works both ways.

Exactly.

You 1st Amendment is probably your most valuble right.

Dont ever let the do gooders and easly offended dilute it like they have with our right to free speech in the UK or you even be able to crack a dark joke on FB without being jailed.

Amen.

The funniest thing I saw traveling in Canada.

A news report on someone facing Jail time.

For something he said.

Americans, Hold on to your rights.

Its one of the reasons I will say what ever I wish, ON a public internet forum that is DAMN sure monitored by the NSA.

IT is my right as an american to Freely express my views, even if they are offensive to others.

ETA: And to the smart asses that say "free speech isn't free" well no crap, IM not talking incitement or yelling Fire in a theater (for the purposefully obtuse ATS crowd)

What do you mean by "professional business setting"

I mean that I would not be using those sort of slang terms when I'm speaking in a managers meeting or something like that. That would be "unprofessional".

But catchy and unusual names are a great way to attract attention to a restaurant. So I have no problem with that.

Why have they not been arrested under The Patriot Act? Their name is obviously designed to encourage terrorist activity by reminding people like themselves of bombs and I also think they mocking 9/11 victims. I think they should be interrogated and their customers investigated. Disgraceful.

Sorry, I missed your post earlier.

We have not had many conversations in the past, so I cannot tell if you are being sarcastic or not. I will assume that you were not being sarcastic and I must ask why you think the name was "obviously designed to encourage terrorist activity by reminding people like themselves of bombs and I also think they mocking 9/11 victims".

In saying that, you are claiming to know the personal intent within the heart of the person opening the business. Unless you have magical superpowers, you do not know what intent this person has, other than they want to open a business.

We should not waste our time and resources investigating people just because they name their business something some people find distasteful.

I guess it'd be ok to name it The Bomb, until the US gets attacked by a middle eastern nation.

Then it might be tacky.

Why would a middle eastern nation attack the US?

Guess you havent heard of a little somthing called the first Amendment.

The patriot act has no business being part of the USA or any nation that calls itself "free".

Except ATS isn't covered by that and is a privately run and owned website that will ban you for certain types of speech.
You don't have free speech on ATS.

Obtuse ats crowd addendum ...

YES I know ats has rules, but areas where the rules of the house do not overlap consists of areas falling similarly inline with US incitement rules.

Things like Yelling fire in a theater, or Avocation of directly illegal activities and Violence, AND even in areas where policy is a grey area, Im least afraid of a ban on a website (look at my threads in the past, Ive danced on TOS plenty of times)

and in order for Speech and expression to remain people need to challenge censorship, No matter its "legality" as one day we may face a Weakened 1st.

The very act of Monitoring by those with the power to enforce punishment is a form of defacto censorship, as it automatically causes some to not speak.

Which is fine on an Internet forum on a topic like MMJ, Ill challenge that though (and i have) on the Day ATS says you can't speak out against the Current ruler, I would hope I would as well.

YES we accept censorship here as the cost of getting a little public soap box, don't think for a moment it makes it right.

ETA:

Here is an example of the type of speech government monitoring could censor;

I, As an America, own guns. I would oppose any Illegal seizure of said arms by the government with force, up to and including deadly.

I believe the above to be my God given right, not a right Granted to me by a "government".

This is speech that falls into ATS TOS, and yet might be something that could get someone "watched."

This is what happens when fear by way of "brown people terrorism" propaganda machinations are able to grip an entire nation's ideation process... thus causing paranoid assumption and speculation aimed towards everyone else around them, whether justified or not.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with it, merely pointing out that ATS is probably the LEAST free of the conspiracy sites in terms of Free speech and for a multitude of reasons, you can and will get slapped and warned and possibly banned for saying things, discussing certain topics and other "word" based "crimes"

A site that professes denial of ignorance is marred in it, I get the irony, especially on ONE topic that though changing FEDs still take a harsh stance on.

Which raises all kinds of questions about its intentions

and with that being said, honey pot or not I stand by my statements.

ETA:
Which, if you think about it, is exactly what this couple is doing by naming their place that.

They are not letting fear determine what they will do.
