Why does Congress or any political body for that matter, need to work full time?

Why?

All they do is write laws.

LAWSLAWSLAWSLAWSLAWS

Laws.

More laws. Good golly, we need to write laws to support or contradict the laws that we wrote last year!

In America, we currently have a "do nothing" Congress. They are so gridlocked in ideology that they can't write any laws.

Isn't that, really, a good thing?

People moan and gripe that our Senate can't pass anything. We have a president who is threatening to bypass Congress so we can have more rules and more laws.

Our "representatives" are supposed to "represent" us, yet all they do is write more laws that harm us!

LAWSLAWSLAWSLAWS!

What laws do we still need? What ISN'T illegal now? Are they just going to write more laws that inhibit, restrict our freedoms?

I want a "Do Nothing" congress year round! I'd love to see a government shut-down where the House and Senate are closed! The president can have dinners and play golf or lie to the public.

But we don't need more laws!

Okay, maybe this is a rant. (changing forums. . . )

Since lobbying money still flows I assume whoever has control over various business trades wants to keep their monopoly. Or has it gotten so consolidated now there is just no need to write new laws?

Great rant though. I was thinking the opposite, should be in the social madness thread. But I am sure it would just end up in here since no sources but we all know what you are saying is 100% true. Can we start a petition for that? I bet we get a whole heap of sigs telling people we are trying to tie congresses hands behind their back for a year....or 20

they don't need to, they weren't meant to, they shouldn't and this is why we have so many issues. They (congress) is supposed to be in their home states and towns and are just supposed to go meet in D.C. every once in awhile.

But they get homes there and live there and work there and make themselves unavailable to their constituents and sit around coming up with new cool laws to screw us with....

I don't believe that politicians should be paid with tax payers money or any money for that matter. It should be a secondary profession. THEN we might get some politicians that were worth anything.

I'm thinking that my vote will go to the guy/gal who wants to rescind some of these laws that are damming up the legal system.

But then again, I also believe that no lawyer should be able to hold office (of any type).

The law saying that "Ignorance of the law is no defense" is total BS. Who can keep up with it?

Congress / politicians working is an oxymoron ..
They have to justify their bloated paychecks for shagging the public somehow .. so they call it working..

the world is an ever changing enviroment,so we need new laws to cover whats being made. When the constitution was written, they only had to worry about letters being hacked, not phones, email, etc. As for full time, they still get paid for doing nothing,so why not fight? LOL! Maybe if we paid them commissiom,5k per law passed, they might really do something!

They all "work" to enrich themselves, it seems to me. And I am all for laws, if they are good ones of common sense. But these lawmakers are on the puppet strings of the 1%. They like their lobbyists. The citizens don't exist, to them. It's all no good. Rotten to the core.

Beezer, I am in a nation which has an abundance of law, and all I can say about that, is that I would like to live in a nation which had less law, and more justice.

Although a certain amount of law is necessary to codify the direction of justice, too much emphasis is placed upon the law, upon following it to the letter, rather than behaving in the spirit of it, and supporting those who do behave in the spirit of it.

Better question. Why do congressmen get a pension?
