I was just sent this from a friend of mine. I am sharing as it's disgusting and revolting and I need to understand why this is happening.

Can anyone else verify? Have you heard of this?

Denmark is a big shame. The sea is stained in red and in the meanwhile it’s not because of the climate effects of nature.

It's because of the cruelty that the human beings (civilised human) kill hundreds of the famous and intelligent Calderon dolphins.

This happens every year in Feroe Iland in Denmark .

In this slaughter the main participants are young teens.

WHY?

A celebration,  to show that they are adults and mature!

It appears the source is wrong. I've done some additional searching and have found this:

en.wikipedia.org...

This is still so disturbing and unnecessary.

(will report more as I find)

From Wikipedia

Main article: Whaling in the Faroe Islands
There are records of drive hunts in the Islands dating from 1584.[32] It is regulated by Faroese authorities but not by the International Whaling Commission as there are disagreements about the Commission's legal authority to regulate small cetacean hunts. Hundreds of long-finned pilot whales (Globicephala melaena) could be killed in a year, mainly during the summer. The hunts, called "grindadráp" in Faroese, are non-commercial and are organized on a community level; anyone can participate. The hunters first surround the pilot whales with a wide semicircle of boats. Then they drive the whales slowly into a bay or to the shallows of a fjord. When a whale is in shallow water a hook is placed in its blowhole so that it may be dragged ashore. Once on land or immobilized in knee-deep water, a cut is made across its top near the blowhole to partially sever its head. The dead animals are then dragged further to shore after the remaining whales have been likewise killed.[33]
This "grindadráp" is thought to be legal and provides food for many people in the Faroe Islands.[34][35][36]
Some Faroese consider the hunt an important part of their culture and history. Animal-rights groups, such as the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, criticize it as being cruel and unnecessary, while the hunters claim in return that most journalists do not exhibit sufficient knowledge of the catch methods or its economic significance.

Whether a person agrees with the practice or not, this at least provides somewhat of an explanation of the views of the people involved in the practice itself.

Why is this not highlighted in national news while Japan's dolphin slaughter is? Why is this okay?

Thats just complete #ing slaughter, how on earth can somebody in their right mind justify doing this. Theres so many people involved its obvious they have all become accustom to it, which is is damn disturbing to say the least.

Absoloutley awful

It's no wonder wildlife in our waters attack humans! I would too if I knew this crap was going on!!

I hate, absolutely HATE this crap! Those people need put in the water swimming while people chase after them with sticks and chains.....I know it would be dropping to their level, but something needs done about this! Where is the government agencies over there? Where is the animal wildlife foundations? Where are decent human beings fighting back against these monsters?

I want to take a flight right now and go "meet" these individuals, BADLY!!!

I see you are all against globalism, but cannot resist sticking yer noses in others business wherever they may be.....
Oh the arrogance of it all....after all only you know best.......

Maybe we should 'domesticate' them and breed them in captivity. We could alternate days at slaughter houses with pigs and cows....?

Some see using animals as a food source as wrong; others do not.

It's just fishing, the fish is just big, they use every part of that fish, and every one in the community gets their share.

They do it one time each year, and the whale they are catching is not threadened by it. This population is estimated at 778,000 individuals, they catch a couple of hundred a year, and eat every bit of them.

People all over the world live of the sea.

ado
Looks to me like their turning this in to a sport of adolescent passage.Their not doing so bad in terms of food up there in the Nordic .
If someone wanted to feast on me for survivals sake ,give it a shot,Ill put up a fight. I know theres inocent cows and chickens being eaten everyday for most of the worlds diet.
What Im angry about is the Frivolous sport going on to sever the lives of GODS creatures.

But they are not doing it as a sport, it's a tradition to do it like this, but the main reason is to feed themself, the tradition comes second.

If you want to see a sport look at all those sport fishers out there using a hook and sinker, just to tell a story and brag about it, or the ones that has laid Africa or any other continent empty of wildlife, just to get a trophy.

Agreed...if they need food...open a package of Kraft Dinner or grow some chickens to feed on. Eat SPAM, I don't care, but whale slaughtering like this cannot be justified anymore. It makes me puke just to see this massacre.

While I feel more akin to marine mammals and could never take part or even watch from afar such a slaughter I can't judge those people. If that was in the states then yes I could, but I realize each culture is different. That may be a right of passage, but it is also a harvest. I have been to countries where cats and dogs are raised for food, and I have seen where they fry the fur off them in vats of oil. To their culture they were food to me they were pets but that was a cultural difference. Can you imagine how Hindu's think about Americans eating sacred cow? That is probably different in most meat eaters minds right?

We shouldn't be so quick to judge it is much better to try and understand.

If they survive up there in the Nordic by their kill , fine, survival.

The Tsimshian tribe of North America have survived by these mamals as a matter of survival . No nice warm Homes with all the amenties in the Nordic.
