Good job, Utah... I guess someone finally did the math.

For all the flak and paranoia Mormons get heaped on them by fundamentalists and evangelicals, they seem to be one of the very few actually embracing the core Christian values of compassion, charity, humility, and non-judgement.

You know...that stuff Jesus kept talking about but has somehow taken a backseat to worrying about gays, commies, and birth control.

Section 8 (housing)

Methinks this program will end much the same way that the above program works out. The tenants tend to destroy the apartments. I mean what is the point of caring for something that isn't yours or that you pay for?

Why would you destroy something that is making your life better?

Also in the wiki link I don't see anything that says the housing was destroyed by the tenants.

Not really. My buddy, who is an apartment manager, told me half of his tenants are section 8, and that in his experience with other properties, there is not that much difference between the quality of tenants. Some of his section 8 tenants are his best tenants, others are utterly worthless pieces of crap. He has actually had bigger problems with non-section 8 trashing his units and skipping out on rent in the middle of the night, or bringing cops to the place.

It really depends on the quality of people, in general. A lot of section 8 people are disabled or elderly, or are veterans.

Too bad it doesn't work that way in Maryland... The Section 8 housing in Baltimore all quickly breaks down with crime going through the roof and the properties getting destroyed.

And how do they do this??

By giving homes to the homeless!

who wudda thunk it - you can stop people being homeless by giving them a home!

In a "red" state no less........

Red like the Soviet flag? Makes sense then : p.

Seriously though, this attitude where economic tools and models are put on pedestals and made principles that need to be to upheld even if they dont work and can be replaced with something that does work, needs to pass. I doubt Communism was fought to safe the world from free homes, social security, universal healthcare, the rich giving their money to the poor. Its like saying we need to stop building highways because thats what the Nazis did.

Communism was a centralized government system not elected by the people which ruled them in a despotic way limited liberties and met dissent with force, thats why it was fought. That and the depressing architecture. And Rocky 4 .

I don't care. Socialism still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. They will always sugarcoat it. That's what they've been doing for decades, after all.

Oh, you mean they didn't spy on people, put them on watchlists, force them to obey laws they disagreed with, control the media, ban self defense, implement indefinite detention without trial and so on? (Yes, I think forcing people to buy health insurance and calling it "universal healthcare" is despotic)
