The timing is interesting. I'm not a Christian and am not expecting this is the Second Coming, but I thought it was interesting that I saw this the same day I saw another news story:

Lightning has broken a finger off the right hand of Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.

...lightning frequently strikes the nearly 100-foot tall statue, a symbol of Rio that overlooks the Brazilian city from the peak of the Corcovado mountain.

Its right hand had been damaged sometime ago, but the finger finally broke off in a storm late Thursday [January 16, 2014].

Hate to correct you... but you are wrong.

It is not impossible to become pregnant while remaining a virgin.

It does however take a lot of trips to specialist doctors, of which, she would be totally aware.

It is however completely impossible to become pregnant while a virgin when there is no sexual intercourse or scientific intervention.

Until of course teleportation has become mainstream... Imagine all the scientific rape O_o.

How the hell can you not know your 9 months pregnant unless you weigh so much you wouldn't notice the bulge.
I can understand some women may not get the usual tells that they are pregnant.
But the one that she can't have ignored... Was the lack of her menstrual cycle... c'mon son, that is a dead giveaway.

you finding it hard to believe, doesn't change the reality that these things do happen, while rare, are certainly well documented ...

ETA - i recall one story of a woman who went to the bathroom while experiencing some stomach cramps, she thought she needed some sort of funky poo ... but instead came back out with a baby boy ... pretty much just slipped out her ...

imagine that .. going for a dump, and becoming a parent to a bouncing baby instead ..

i may have got that wrong .. it could have been a pee she thought she needed .. am not sure what bein pregnant feels like .. but if they compare it to excrementing a brick, then /... welll yeah .. id imagine it feels more like needin a poo than a pee, if either of those area appropriate ..

if someone does not want to participtae in any sex for whatever reason, and are happy to do so, then i would say that is not agsint nature, but in tune with their nature ...

As for the records of people carrying to term without knowing it..... Well that involves believing that they were not full of it, and I don't believe it. I think people that claim to not have known are liars quite frankly. To each their own though, welcome to believe them if you wish.

other than you, ansd a few others in this thread, i see zero mentionin the report, that anyone is even suggesting she was a virgin mother ..

Jesus. The woman is a WOMAN. She has sex. Simple as that. She basically admitted as much when she said she didn't realize she was pregnant. Again, she didn't claim to be a virgin. She just said she didn't realize she was pregnant.

Good grief.

The rational explanation is that she did the deed and got knocked up.

Why didn't she notice the lack of a menstrual cycle? Maybe she thought it was menopause.

It happens. And some pregnant women still spot for a few months. But also you have to understand that our menstrual cycle isn't always on time. There are a variety of reason for an irregular cycle from medical reasons to just stress.

There has been a few possible cases of this happening in mammals too. The shark article was just the first I stumbled across. The correct term is for it is parthenogenesis.

It depends on your concept of virginity, mine just extended beyond tearing the hymen. In any case the hymen can be reconstructed and so by your stricter definition anyone can get their virginity back...

Additionally, the hymen may be lacerated by disease, injury, medical examination, masturbation or even physical exercise. For these reasons, the state of the hymen is not a conclusive indicator of virginity.

As for the lack of realization of a pregnancy there is ample examples that it can occur but mostly they are not normal pregnancies, and are rare exceptions. There was even some TV shows that covered these types of events. Mostly it happens due to lack of information, care about symptoms or masked due to other health concerns (even extreme obesity).
