I'm writing a book, based in the future, extrapolating from current TEA Party policies. The book is set 20 years after a TEA Party landslide takes both the Senate and the House of Representatives with a filibuster proof majority.

I'm frightening myself with what the world will look like. Basically, I extrapolated that through gerrymandering and pure brainwashing through the media, the TEA Party, after two terms of Barack and two terms of Hillary, come to power in a massive landslide, and are able to enact all their policies as law.

My antagonist is an Alex Jones type character who goes into a coma just before they come to power, and wakes up, remembering what things were like before, and shocked at what they've become. The underground are hiding him, and he's going to start his radio show again as "Radio Free America" all the while on the run from the TEA Party secret religious police.

That's about all I'm telling you now, but open to ideas as to which ridiculous TEA Party ideas you'd like to see extrapolated into actual practice.

Sounds like economic prosperity and restoration of freedoms.

repeal of most laws.

2.5% unemployment rate.

Low taxes.

minimum imports.

low insurance rates.

much much more.

Hmmmm what about a Christian Theocracy? There are some elements within the Tea Party that wanted to have a government run by "God."

Yup, that's what I'm starting with, a Christian Theocracy taken to the extreme, with religious police, the whole gambit.

Here are some ideas. Just look up some of the things Ted Cruz's father preaches like redistributing wealth to Christians. He said gis son was a messiah and will bring about that and a ton of other things.

Mandatory pray the gay away camps sponsored by the Bachmans.

Forced birthing camps.

Evolution will not be taught. Homeschooling will be subsidised.

Homeless shelters formerly known as FEMA camps.

Hmm, interesting idea for a book. And certainly an extreme right end result could be worrisome as a subject, though if you give it some real thought a better idea would be if the Tea party get in after Obama. Then we see business as usuall from them, maybe things get a little worse. Then.... we elect a Progressive president, and a super majority in both Senate and house of progressives. There you will have a true recipe for a nightmare of oppression, death, and misery. Now that, would be a thriller.

I wasn't going to even bother with this but it's pretty obvious most people have no idea what the Tea Party represents. Here are a few of the things they wish to fix in the US.
    1. Eliminate Excessive Taxes
    2. Eliminate the National Debt
    3. Eliminate Deficit Spending
    4. Protect Free Markets
    5. Abide by the Constitution of the United States
    6. Promote Civic Responsibility
    7. Reduce the Overall Size of Government
    8. Believe in the People
    10. Maintain Local Independence

Of course these ideas are anathema to both "progressives" and "conservatives" (imbedded democrats and republicans.) Carry on with the religious attacks, etc though. It should make for a predictable read.

Edit to add - Since you are from Canada anyway that makes this even more.. amusing.

that's a book I surely would like to read : )

But I am afraid we're not even so far away from "SciFi". I just read a couple weeks ago in a study that TODAY, a huge percentage of 30% believe in the Bible literally...mind you LITERALLY...and an even higher percentage (like 40% -50%) believes in the Bible although not quite literally.

Don't get me wrong...it's not that I write this to rant about the religious since IMO people have the right to believe whatever they want...but what this means is that a HUGE percentage of Americans today are basically rejecting science...and that a third would reject basic things like the age of the Earth, evolution, etc..etc...things which are basic science.

So..from that POV your nightmare scenario of a religious/crazed society like in the MiddleAges is not that far off. American society DOES have the potential. Of course, it would then ALSO create a huge split between the many religious and scientists and those remaining who do NOT share those views.

(According to the statistics, those who believe the Bible literally are less educated, for instance).

So..your book could ALSO cover a split of the "average people" who become crazy religious fanatics and how all science etc. is abandoned, scientists and basically all technological advancement comes to a halt and those higher educated people fleeing to other countries. With all the ramifications....interesting idea.

Eliminate all Federal subsidies to the States immediately; let each rise and fall according to its own resources.

Eliminate all Federal subsidies to oil companies immediately; let the price of fuel reach its own balanced level.

Eliminate the Constitutionally-illegal standing Army and Air Force, close all military bases world-wide, and bring over a million servicemen and women home from foreign wars and deployment.

Eliminate the Social Security Administration, Centers for Disease Control, the Food and Drug Administration, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, etc. etc. Close the Federal Reserve.

Now,

Revel in the hellscape where the basic infrastructures of everyday life that Americans have come to depend on fall apart within six months, where all fuel oils are far too expensive for any but the richest to afford, where there are over a million folks immediately out of work, most of whom possess a high level of combat training, weapons skills, munitions expertise, etc., where 63 million people now have no income to speak of, where there is no unified response to disease outbreaks, where food quality is whatever people will buy, where there are no more weather reports, where every local airport coordinates all flights on their own, where the financial system disappears, banks fail, billions in personal wealth simply vanish overnight ...

But hey, the budget is balanced now, right?
No New Taxes, woohoo!

Why not challenge your own ideas and write a book based on the complete wins of progressive idealism such as President Obama or Hillary Clinton -- I see that you are going to start your book after such a win, but why not discuss the possibilities during that time? What would happen? I know it is aligned with your thinking, given your precursor to the dreaded Tea Party taking power; but you are intending to write fiction no?

Include vampires, zombies, werewolves, the fae, maybe a hobbit or two. If you're going to write fantasy, that's one thing.

On a serious note, if you want to research the book, why not go to Tea Party rally?

This sounds great....I have written two books myself and was thinking of a fictional alternate future as well. I don't want to give too much away, but I love stuff like this and would be very interested in seeing your finished product...aka purchasing it! My future consisted more of global communism or perhaps democratic socialism.

I also was looking at writing a book on leadership through the eyes of a pirate ship crew that goes through several captains in a short period of time who lead completely differently. That is what im currently working on.

I find getting the idea is way more fun than writing it haha. But good luck and it sounds like a great start I unfortunately don't have anything to help ya besides encouragement.

No, that's what the vast majority of the TEA party stand for. You are buying into the leftist false rhetoric. So your story is going to be a propaganda piece? Read "The Handmaiden's Tale." There is a dystopian story about a theocracy for you.

The fear of a theocracy is overblown, IMHO. We're more likely to get a socialist nanny state with an Orwellian Big brother than a theocracy.
