Prophetic Domain Name Registrations

It would be nice to know if the buyers of the name makes massive purchases or just selective ones. that would give an insight to whether they are opportunist or may have some sort of premonition

If I was particularly interested in the PopeFrancais.com case I'd look to see if someone registered a bunch of different popeX.com domain names all in the same timeframe. It doesn't exactly have to be a broad conspiracy. Just one person in the church could think... oh I like this guy so I want him to be pope and will do what I can, like register that domain name.

Same thing with Obama. If I were getting involved in politics and I was thinking defensively and wanted to register some domain names I might include "impeachfractal2.com" just to block anyone from having it. Impeachment happens in state-level politics too. I think Obama's backers caught that one early on. Obviously the guy was "groomed from early on" given he was relatively young when becoming the president.

I suppose you could take the registrant's name, if it's available, and Google it, but that might be a awfully cumbersome way to do the research. It's probably not definitive either.

Well I think it's a very interesting idea and sort of like mining for gold. A person could shovel a lot of dirt before they hit that one golden nugget.

Nothing in the article I linked to proves anything, it only provides a marginally plausible explanation. Could be that the registrant has a gift for prognostication he isn't aware of or he could be some sort of front man.

It occurs to me that it could be used as a sort of insider trading type thing, although those folks would presumably use a proxy to register the domain making it difficult to track down.

I suspect that if a person dug deep enough and long enough along this vein they're going to find something.

Just a note, Pope Francis was a leading candidate in 2005, when Ratzinger was (elected? - is that the right word?) Anyhow, the other side to that is, his name wasn't "Pope Francis" at the time, it was Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio.

So...unless it was known he would be called Francis if elected, this doesn't explain it, though if that was known or suspected, it could well explain the registration. Then the next question would be, why 5 years after he was a leading candidate?

I think the word you are looking for is appointed or anointed.

And yeah, considering the circumstances of the new pope's rise to palpacy, I would think that there may have actually been some forward knowledge of what was about to go down.

I mean this guy is like the living embodiment of Saul Goodman. Probably has connections to folks who can male you disappear without having to kill you, etc.

Anyways, I also agree that folks like this guy are probably connected to an insider trading type business like the post above you mentions. I wonder what their formula for finding info is...if we can work it out, we can bring them down by laying money on their calls.

Just want to add one other thing about the impeachobama.com site. I know I am assuming on this, but it seems some people think impeachment just relates to only the president. However, impeachment can happen to anyone in office on both federal and STATE levels. Obama was a state senator during the time, I think it seems perfectly possible someone wanted Obama impeached from being a state senator. Maybe I'm just crazy, but I would think that is the answer there.

snowden.com was registered in 1996...but whoever owns it doesnt seem to have made use of it as its an empty site.

Having been a domain investor / speculator myself, I think I owe you all some info that can be used both debunk these names, and also research other leads that may need investigating.

There is a website frequented by domainers, domaintools.com and that site has an awesome search function.

Hover over products, and click domain search, use this direct link www.domaintools.com...

Now click on advanced search and have some fun.

My search was "pope" then I checked the box "Only show domains beginning with this search string"

Boom, Domain Search Results — 16908 domains containing "pope" so there are 16908 returned and all these begin with pope, both registered, and deleted domains show up.

So now you have a great search tool for finding obscure websites targeted to any subject you like, and don't forget millions and millions of sites never ever get a mention on regular search engines like Google.

To save people the time, I checked bostonbombing, bostonbombings and several of its variations and found nothing registered prior to the events.

For Research: Major Events of the 2000s

a lot of domain names could have meant nothing at the time of registration. They could be purchased later from those desiring it. Its a good money making gimmick to buy in advance if you think it will be big one day and sell for a lot of money. They're quite cheap to buy. A small yearly fee and you don't have to upload a running website to it. Just get the name reserved to stop others, and there's other extensions like net, org etc. you could get all of them, if available.

Skyfloating - you have some of the most interesting original threads I've ever read on ATS. Let me look into this. Did you check and see who registered the names? Are they leaving bread crumbs?
