Seems the sun is having a lie in this morning, aparently it has 'gone to sleep' and is 'baffling scientists'...

BBC news

New Scientist

Amazing for all me know or think we know, about the world we still get surprises.

Could this Solar Lull be the beginning of a mini ice age?

Well if there calling for a mini ice age guess we need to start making more CO2 right away. I hate cold weather with a passion guess im moving to the equator.

Its almost as if mother nature (does she include the Sun?) has noticed we are foobaring our planet and is doing this to combat it. But yeah I wanna move too, California weather is tempting.

Colder ? Getting warmer, warmer, hot, hotter.
Nope freezing. getting warmer tho, warmer,
warmer. Nope colder and all the back to global
warming again. WTF do they even know anything ?

My most 2nd most recent horrific nightmare was of a blast of light where everthing glowed for a moment then was vaporized, myself include.

I thought it was a fear of a nuclear blast, but who know...

is there any chance of the sun dying? It's not over til the fat lady sings

No its still has plenty of fuel and gets much hotter before it dies. The sun continues to increase in brightness its brighter now then when it first started.

Na the sun is just going through a mid-life crisis at the moment.

In other news 5 billion years from now the sun will become a red giant swallowing mercury and venus while scorching earth. then i after a while the red giant sun will become a white dwarf star leaving the scorched earth an icy, inhospitable wasteland.

How is it possible you have so many stars with writing like this? Are you 12 years old? I hope you're just having an off moment!

I Just read the other posts, and it seems your kind of stupid is contagious. Bwaaaaahahahaha! Go back to school kids!

Can anybody say run-on sentence? Let's say it together…run-on sentence!

This website has plummeted into the abyss of stupidity...

Until it does..then the scientists will go 'oh, didn't expect that, it hasnt done that before'

That's the thing, we have such a limited view of how things work, based on one solar system and based on just a few thousand years of human knowledge, we don't really know anything yet.

So, is it possible the sun could just blow up

after a quiet streak? What is it that makes it go quiet, or is it just the random up and down like about just last week we had an X1.2

Its possible, anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

I believe some people will believe the planet is going to continue to warm up unless a polar vortex expands to cover the entire northern half of the planet and freezes everything down to the equator. Then they will wonder how global warming contributed to the freak weather. If it lasts for twenty years, we won't have to worry anymore. We will be dead and starved to death years earlier, unless someone decides to find a way to cheaply heat and grow algae or something similar and use it for food for the masses. There was another thread on here that suggested algae could be made into manna or some type of food. Of course it was suggested that aliens might have the technology.

I believe our governments will deny any problem exists if one does. Then if people starve to death, they'll raise taxes on survivors to make up for lost revenue. Then after our government and the weather has killed off almost everyone, the politicians that fled to their bunkers will realize they need others to do work and make food and other products but there won't be anyone left to do any of that. Then the worst fear of politicians will come to pass. They will have survived in bunkers for years, never helping anyone else, then they emerge and find out they'll have to work to survive like any ordinary person they failed and taxed to death.

Maybe I should add that climatologists believe the Earth will continue to heat up regardless of the sun changing. I'm not sure if all do but I believe some do. Others may not be certain. I guess we might find out who is correct.

I thought I had a gloomy outlook on life lol. Would they tell us? Maybe they know already, hence Mars One, maybe that's a front for something bigger?

I was probably a bit pessimistic in the post. I did add that sentence at the bottom indicating some believe we have put so much co2 in the air that the planet will continue to heat up even with the sun going into a solar minimum.

I thnk we have some time to wait and see what happens.

Well the laws of physics would have to go out the window . But yeah sure anything possible but not likely. Basically our sun just doesn't have enough mass to blow up. It goes through solar cycles and one theory i read talks about how the sunspots causes the earth to heat up no sunspots and we get colder.

Well 'our' laws of physics anyway. But yes, of course it isn't going to blow up.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if something like this offset global warming though. Even though we wouldn't deserve it.

Pffft I doubt it. Us scientists just like a little doom porn like anyone else
