Its sad but the RUSSIANS and the TALIBAN did that to the country not us! Why don't you look up the giant Budda statues that they blew up all over the country that were thousands of years old? Did you know Budda was from Afghanistan?! Get your history straight. Wait your right lets leave and let them go back to shooting women in the heads for reading a book at the soccor stadium. That's much more civil and humane. I wonder about the mindset of people like you I really do.

My friend... Read the website. It said before the communists.

You've just gone off on the most pointless rant, no one said it was perfect during Communist reign.

Although at least under their reign women had rights and they weren't THE poorest country in the world, it's only since we stepped in the Jihadists have gained exponential power and all their women and natural resources got raped.

No he was not, he was from Nepal.

It was still a place of natural beauty under Communist rule, not any more though!

Thank you for the pictures as these are a subtle reminder of what war can do. However, you really have to blame those who are 'in power'.

For comparison look at pictures of Detroit from the 60's or even the 80's and then look at them now. Most of it is also deserted and looks like a war zone.

Link to Pic this is one pic

Where as I feel for the people of the ME they are not alone in this world...very, very sad.

Also, here's a few pictures form the 80's to show you how horrible it has been under their rule...

And a report...

No bombs in the 80's

I feel like carpet bombing and forcefully invading it might have done a tad more damage than the soviets who actually defended the area...

Also, the taliban were funded by the CIA to overthrow the soviets, again, our interests.

I'm 100% not supporting communism, I'm also not supporting our meddling in everything, usually so we can steal other countries resources.

It's a good sign that the US Government need to stop spending time and resources trying to steal from other countries, and spend more time looking at domestic problems instead!

As I understand it, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan started the latest stint of war. They essentially gave the Taliban the support it needed to rise up and hold its power. It seems once the soviets/russians gave up and left the extremists took over and received funding and help from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. This happened in the 90's. In 2001 9/11 happened and the US vowed to attack Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden and by association the Taliban. Afterward, Saudi Arabia withdrew its support of the Taliban, but Pakistan didn't completely pull out and remained a refuge for the Taliban and Bin Laden - the US chased them into Pakistan.

When I stand back what I think I see is communism versus capitalism or east versus west. It's about dominant countries throwing their weight around. Another country to receive this treatment is Korea which is now split into two.

Of course, one should not overlook smaller regional powers within or nearby Afghanistan. The same applies to North and South Korea. The world is a mess of manipulation by higher powers exerting their control on lower.

I basically agree with you.

But it makes it almost sound like the Afghans have no freewill and did everything because of "us".

It's not black and white.

This. Besides the extremists took power before the US invaded.

Extremists were part of the US plan.

The CIA, working behind the scenes through Pakistani intelligence, provided massive arms (eventually reaching 65,000 tons a year) and training to Afghanistan’s Mujahideen and 40,000 Muslim zealots recruited from over 40 countries.

Not all those pictures were before the communist....

Well first their 21 trillion dollars of nature resources is still in the ground, and second, Jihadist were a result of Communism, not Democracy. It is not like we had a choice in which side to support....

We had the choice of helping nether and might have been the best looking back... since no one thought one side would go total retard...but they did, and once again, by their choice. Remember, it is not like we have supported them in 25 years, so someone is, and a large percent of the population agrees with them. We didn't invent the Jihadist...that would be like saying we invented the Muslin religion...

The stretching and reaching you do in order to ignore facts to the contrary just so you can play the popular ATS 'Blame America Game" with regard to this issue is genuinely pathetic. The Soviet Union DID NOT 'Defend Afghanistan." Yeesh. No wonder this place is going downhill so quickly. NO ONE around here can be bothered to learn even BASIC HISTORY!

Yes, the U.S funded the people fighting against the Soviet invasion. Were you even alive then? If you were, you would know how sad and misguided your posts on this matter really are. The Soviets were after the riches of Afghanistan and the "Evil U.S." funded the opposition to that invasion. And after the Soviets were repelled we went in and stole their oil. Oh, wait, no we did nothing of the sort. We left them alone to manage their own affairs, something they did VERY POORLY. Funny, you will be the first person to say we shouldn't be in Iraq or Afghanistan at all, but I bet you will blame us for "abandoning" them after the Soviets left, right? YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!!!

Many Bollywood movies were filmed in Afghanistan due to the beauty of the landscape before all these wars, I think one of the last one made there was in the late 70's early 80s

Please enlighten us all all to what resources, exactly, the U.S. has "stolen" from Afghanistan. And I am not asking for conspiracy theories or unproven allegations. I want a clear statement backed up by clear proofs showing that we have "stolen" ANYTHING from Afghanistan.

Just look after when berlin was divided in 2 parts after wwII, after that the whole cold war basicly started as one big power trip between 2 powers where people where really scared for a nuclear war.
You sure they where after the riches? Russia is close to afghanistan, probaly they wanted to have a stable part and some control.
But yea they also sold the war as against terrorists but it's just a power game and control.
But that the US sold this war to the people with the name terrorists, axis of evil etc and before that helped the same people to fight Russia, would you buy anything they would try to sell you (as a justification) after? not me.

Lol they can't even trust (the US) their own people, spying them and even their allies, which is not so weird since they can't be trusted 1 bit themself. Lies, lies and more lies with the message; freedom, liberty and you name it, fighting ''evil'' everywhere but causing more evil, 10 fold over. Yet still blind for themself for any wrongdoing, since they don't know even what's good anymore or for what it stands for.

That said I really also don't like for example my own country who did or would still do kiss the US ass whenever they can.

To be fair, we went into Afghanistan to go after OBL. That much is plain and clear. And we got out as soon as we could. There was no "spin" to it. We asked them to turn him over and they refused. And it was not just the U.S. who went in. We had allies who also supported our cause. Just saying.

Right, as bush said he didn't cared 1 bit about Bin Laden. So how you explain Iraq with the same logic?
No Bin Laden there.. Sure but it helped to sell the war(s), that's for sure.

And yes allies supporting, not much but still you right, ass kissers.. but maybe they get wiser, they should be by now.

And getting out of Afhanistan as soon as possible?? they still there today as far as I know and longer then even WWII.

listen carefully from 30 secs to 50. should tell you something.

When looking at the pictures, I was just thinking about the fact, that if radical people where being raised there or came exiled from elsewhere, because of all the rules of women not being able to be looked at, men dressed as in USA rather than cultural cloath of the area, etc, etc.

Slowly being corrupted, or without any notice bought to make the country what there foes wanted it to be.
