How long do you extend unemployment benefits before we just call it well-fare?

I am not being heartless, but a year or two is enough to find a job.

Any many have found jobs. All the while, many others have gotten laid off. My aunt... a Dr. working for a hospital for 43 years was just laid off along with over 200 other hospital workers at that one hospital. Just before Thanksgiving. She has savings and wouldn't be applying for anything, but don't for one second think that these are people that have been unemployed for 2 years. People get hired, others get fired... period!

Sorry but unemployment benefits is to help people no for people to live on it at the expenses of the working class tax payers.

My husband for the first time in his working adult life lost his job, he for the fist time in his life have to get unemployment, the pay he got under unemployment will never amount to the taxes he has paid in his life, it was nothing but pennies for us.

Still he manage to find a job with the same pay as the one he lost.

So with that said, what is stopping most of the unemployment benefit riders out there from getting a another job.

I feel not pity for anybody that tries to run the system, unemployment is a benefit no a darn right.

Handing someone money for years on end isn't a solution...it is what you end up doing when you are out of solutions. The democrats and the liberal government need to understand that it is a job these people need. Not a hand-out. Drill, drill, drill and allow the employers to have reason to hire more people. Not this "raise the minimum wage", "pay for insurance", etc. If YOUR government spends the employers money on these things, obviously there isn't any being spent to hire new people.

For each dollar spent in unemployment, $2.00 of economy activity takes place according to a Labor Department study commissioned by the Bush Administration. Each $2.00 in turn creates tax revenues and so forth.

Now, new evidence from a study commissioned by the Labor Department during the Bush Administration reaffirms the value of UI as an automatic economic stabilizer during the latest recession. This study was conducted by the research firm IMPAQ International in conjunction with the Urban Institute and using the macroeconomic model from Moody’s Economy.com.
The study found that UI benefits:

reduced the fall in GDP by 18.3%. This resulted in nominal GDP being $175 billion higher in 2009 than it would have been without unemployment insurance benefits.

In total, unemployment insurance kept GDP $315 billion higher from the start of the recession through the second quarter of 2010;

kept an average of 1.6 million Americans on the job in each quarter: at the low point of the recession,

1.8 million job losses were averted by UI benefits, lowering the unemployment rate by approximately 1.2 percentage points;
made an even more positive impact than in previous recessions, thanks to the aggressive, bipartisan effort to expand unemployment insurance benefits and increase eligibility during both the Bush and Obama Administrations.

“There is reason to believe,” said the study, “that for this particular recession, the UI program provided stronger stabilization of real output than in many past recessions because extended benefits responded strongly.”

have a multiplier effect of 2.0: for every dollar spent on unemployment insurance, this report finds an increase in economic activity of two dollars.

Many hard working people get laid off it is not welfare you have to work to receive the benefit. And your arrogance about this not affecting you not only shows a pathetic lack of empathy but also ignorance. What do you think happens when millions of people can not longer afford to house and feed themselves? Just let that sink in................



And just to set the record straight if you have seen my posts before you know I am a conservative that hates the progressive mindset. I know what I wrote was harsh but it is true. Many parents have failed teaching the really important things like empathy and compassion.

Hopefully they can't get 5 more. Extension, after extension, after extension...just becomes like the us economy.. bandage after bandage...

Yup...the Democrats are "Mommy" and the Republicans are "Daddy". Mommy says..."oh, my poor little child...too young to know any better...couldn't ever do anything wrong...come here for a hug" without fixing anything. While Daddy actually solves the problem, tells junior to toughen up, take responsibility for himself and his actions, learn from his mistakes and provides a real, honest role-model.

You know...grow up and be a man vs. growing up to be a mama's boy.

Perhaps your friend just wasn't adapting to the changing field quickly enough and a 30 year old is already deep in how things are currently done? Perhaps this comes across when he goes on interviews.

And it's true, I lost over half of my 401 after the crash....but it is now almost double what it was before the crash, so I don't know why your friends is doing so badly...the stock market has been booming even if the economy hasn't truly recovered.
