Q: Why are these people unemployed?
A: Bad choices.

Q: Why should I be concerned?
A: Quite frankly ... I am not.

Q: Why is it a 'given' that only 5 conservative votes are required?
Q: Why is there 'no question' every liberal will vote for this extension?

Q1 answer, not always, sometimes they are out of your control.

Q2 answer, you should be, most are but two pay checks from bankruptcy.

Q3 answer, you say liberal like it is a bad thing, they want to feed the poor and insure that everyone has healthcare, but by being a conservative, you wish the rich to get richer, while your middle class lifestyle goes to hell.

LOL

I take personal responsibility for myself and my family. I make sound judgement calls. I have 'worked' my way up from poverty and never asked for more than what I earned.

I expect the same of others.

Keep your hands away from my wallet. What you would propose is that I deny my own in favor of people who make consistently poor choices throughout their lives ... instead of charting a true course to success.

You are perfectly welcomed to call me cold-blooded on this issue if you wish. I will NOT take the slightest offense.

God forbid, a heart attack or stroke keeps you from working, heaven help you, if you have a child with a catastrophic disease that costs 1000's to treat. I once was on top of the world too, but no amount of preparation would prepare me for what I faced. You are cold blooded, you can see nothing outside of your own life, and the one thing to remember is that Karma is a bitch. I have never told anyone to deny their own, I hope your course is true, because one slight deviation will derail you for life. Like most of your republican brothers you are on top of the world, hopefully that world will never end for you, for some of us it has.

Do not be deceived. The benefits are set to expire. The Democrats must appear to support the extension of benefits. That is the role they play. The Republicans have to oppose whatever the Democrats support. That is the role they play.

The only thing that really matters is whether or not the Federal Reserve Bank supports extending the benefits. If they do, the benefits will be extended. Otherwise, they won't. It's that simple.

Think about it. What congressman would want to explain to his constituents why he voted against extending the benefits in this economy? This should be a no-brainer for anyone up for re-election this year. It should pass as easily as a Congressional pay raise. So why is it even an issue?

I think whether benefits are extended is a toss-up. On the one hand, the Fed has been pumping out billions lately with their QE programs; runaway inflation is a concern.

On the other hand, Obama desperately needs a "win" to boost his approval rating to sell the American public on the upcoming amnesty for illegal immigrants, which the Fed wants.

I'm betting that Congress votes, by a comfortable margin, to extend the benefits for one year. An amnesty bill will pass this summer. Republicans will make gains in both Houses in November, and benefits will expire next January. Then we can go back to spending money on important things, like wars and spying.

The Fed wins.

If you have investments in the Stock market, I would be watching them very carefully, lest you want to lose another $100,000.

I lost over $100K when Bush Jr. took office. Know what I learned? You can't trust the stock market no matter which party is in power. If you don't know what you're doing ... keep your money in your pockets.

This is considered a special time and case because the politicians know the harm the Banksters did to the economy

They know the trillions of lost 401 k’money to the middle class and poor. I personally know people who lost 6 figures in 401k money, lost forever.

They should extend these benefits until the economy gets closer to where it was before the 2007-8 depression.

This is also a reason why we need a national job initiative something the GOP again is fighting.

They want more austerity. Austerity HAS NEVER WORKED, WILL NEVER WORK AND IT ISN'T WORKING.

I thank you for answering.

I do have a problem with extensions if the employers are still the ones footing the bill for it. They didn't have anything to do with the economy failing as miserably as it did and should not be forced to pay out unemployment when in all likelihood, they have suffered a hit from the same hard times as those that were let go. Some businesses will have to recover and they can't do that if they are saddled with paying for so much more than they were responsible for.

That then leaves us with "Who should pay?" and "Where is all of the money going to come from?"

As others have stated it, after so long, it really can't be called unemployment. It is indeed a form of welfare and that in itself is not a judgement, it is a fact.

I think about how many people have lost houses, cars, insurance, etc. before all of this (current economy status) who could have used another 4 weeks of unemployment, but were denied. They didn't get any extensions... Certainly not a year +. Considering that, what makes this "crisis" any more fair other than the number of people who filed claims? You can bet your arse that the kids/families of those who lost their homes 4 years ago from a job loss and unemployment running out felt like that situation was just AS DIRE AND SIGNIFICANT as those occurring now.

At some point there has to be a cut off. I can not judge when that should be. I am glad that I do not have that duty as the kids would sway me for sure, but logically it will have to end at some point.

Undeniably there are those that will suck the system dry just because they can. Then there are others that do need the help... I don't have an answer on how to fix it, I just know that it can not last forever.

American businesses will not create jobs, they will send them off shore for less money, and do more for less here. Reaganomics is a joke played on us all.

Who signed NAFTA into Law????

You are right, it was just those Evil Republicans doing that............

I can tell you from the business owners I associate with, they to a person, say the Government is causing them to be wary of hiring or make major capital expenditures. Government is going out of it's way to make it harder to be a business owner in America. Give business a reason to invest in America and they will.

You see?

One day that IS going to happen. I know this. I'm ready for that day already. I won't be a burden on anyone when that day comes.

Until then, I don't want anyone being a burden on me. I didn't ask for that either. Why should I be made to worry over a handful of votes? Is that fair to me?

Bush and his people did nothing to prosecute them either, the financial collapse happened under Bush, let us all not forget that. In fact, most of the bailouts that Obama is blamed for began under Bush.

A bit on the side, but....

Bush did warn over and over.

Bush warnings

more warnings

Plus as I remember, the "Bush" bailouts were all loans and got paid back maybe with interest?

The Obama stimulus plans showed some losses?

It doesn't matter which Party it is. You are right..... sad thing is that most people trust Wall Street experts more than their own gut feelings. That's a major part of the problem.

Trusting someone who doesn't even care about you is the first mistake. A former wife of a client of mine lost over $300,000 and her broker never even once called her to express any concerns. He only called to find out why she was removing the final $175,000 from his management. He was actually shocked when she fired him. There's a lesson in that somewhere..........

I do taxes for my small pittance these days, the only law hanging over there heads is Obamacare, and out of the 100 business I do taxes for, it affects one of them, none of the others have more than 50 employees. The state and local governments are doing far more to hurt small business than the feds, but no one wants to talk about that.

All sizes of government are making it harder to own and run businesses rather than making it easier, that's my main point. If you want to create jobs, give incentives to businesses to do so rather than make things harder for them.

As long as you and people like you already feel that way about the GOP and anyone who does not agree with you then I will be sure to let my representative know to vote NO.

You clown's just don't know when to shut up, hopefully this time you will have to find another way to buy your vote's.

The only clowns I know are those that refuse to help people in need.
In-fact they are worst than clowns.
It’s your moral less, soulless philosophy of you and your selfish nonhuman friends in the GOP who always prevent progress.
Though it looks like evil and selfishness was held up for awhile since it looks like the senate passed the bill

WASHINGTON -- A measure to reinstate unemployment benefits for more than a million workers cut off over the holidays cleared a key hurdle in the Senate on Tuesday by a margin of 60 to 37. Six Republicans supported the measure.

Hate and ridicule seems to be the order of the day with people like you, that's a great way to get things solved.

Do you really think throwing money at people is the way to get them to go back to work ? obviously not but at the same time a great way to buy vote's.

Your hate filled rhetoric in no way covers up your agenda.

There is always a expiration date to these bills. What are we going to do when that occurs? Keep kicking that can down the road?

The thought of "it'll get better" doesn't fly these days with most folk.

But there is a part of me that says if this bill is passed, the DNC just blew their hand at keeping the ACA off the radar.

God forbid any eaters and breeders have to go without, like the rest of the gainful contributors.

If you can't find ANY job in 99 weeks, 47 weeks, or 2 weeks then you're not #ing trying and have failed as a member of society. IMO it's better to take a pay cut than have to survive by eeking out by sucking on the government's tit and have no pride.

What complete horsesh**....I manage a department in a hospitality venue, and with ads in various places seeking a half brained person with reasonable skills. The pay is above average and has some good perks....where are all of the american unemployed job seekers? really, EVERYONE is non american, and some bring their english attempting cousin. If there are job seekers who want actual pay for actual work, where the heck are they???? crying for an extension, not all, but just damn about all. This is very troubling, as I may have to learn "their" language in my own country.....Question....WTF are the unemployed americans? not looking for a job.....My heartless ass says "no extension, hit the pavement!"

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

This bill is a joke. Of course the bankers support this bill. Anything to creates debt they love. That's how they enslave countries by debt. Then they hold them hostages. If u don't give them what they want they will destroy your credit rating.

As far I can tell Democrats are huge debt expansionist and tend to protect the private federal reserve.
