Dear whoever is responsible for this kind of thing,

Every time an advert on your site comes blaring out of my computer speakers without warning or welcome, I shut down all connections to your site and go somewhere else. For the rest of the day. Sometimes the rest of the week if I get caught up in something interesting elsewhere.

I understand you have to have adverts. I have not complained about the very annoying redirects which send me off to a page telling me I am the lucky 100000th or whatever it is visitor and that I have won a prize - although I should, you should be ashamed of yourselves letting that type of scam on this site.

I don't complain about any of the adverts as I understand you need to generate revenue to pay for the site. Fair enough.

But keep your hands off my speakers! It is soooo annoying having some stupid add blurt out from nowhere and have to search though your tabs to figure out where it is coming from. Let us have an option to turn it off.

I repeat. Every time one of your adds hijacks my speakers, I leave. For a considerable period of time. I would recommend this course of action to everyone.

i would be up for paying to play here $10 a year x 250.000 members and it would get rid of the ones who never show up after making a account

Mobile version is littered with them as well. The most annoying is the popup "get your free antivirus scan now" - I find that intrusive.

Why not add an option to remove adverts for a small fee. At least people have an option.

Can we purchase a premium membership to get rid of these adds please.......
That way you still make money and keep us happy

I logged in just a few minutes ago from work and had a full screen ad that covered the page content so I had to hit X to close it, and two other pop ups as well...talk about a roller coaster ride! Glad my sound wasn't on LOL.

Even amateur bloggers know better than to subject their visitors to pop ups and other intrusive ads, unless they're greedy and just out for a buck. Either way this definitely ruins the viewer experience.

Just go straight to www.abovetopsecret.com... and there's no adds.

I remember the ones which covered the whole page when you put the cursor near it, #ing awful, glad I don't get that anymore.

I'd be more than willing to pay £10 a year to help ATS. I wouldn't recommended making everybody pay for it, but at least make a premium account available to help substantially minimize the adds people are getting pissed off with.

ok....I must be the only tight-ass in this group, but I don't want to pay for membership. the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence, so to speak. try watching any 30 second clip that Comcast has on it's front page... you have to sit through a 30 second ad just to see monkeys and cats dance together.

I have heard several people complain about the ads and I have never gotten any. not one. hmmmm

I only just realized I'v had AdBlock on for about a month now and that's why I'm not getting any haha

Anyway, I'd be more than happy to pay. £10 a year from 30/50k+ subscribers brings in a pretty nice wage. Maybe even get your own merchandise, # T'shirts though, I want UFO statues, Illuminati all seeing eye mantle piece's. There's such a nice niche here that I'm surprised you haven't gone in that direction already.

And when most of ATS money was comign from the contributors of the site,it would be nice if members actually had a say of how the T&C's are played out, I'm not going to talk about what particular ones though, I'm sure you know which ones.

These ads are not ATS's fault. Thes ads are from Google, which installs its AdSense on almost all sites. ATS could refuse Google' AdSense, but they don't, and I don't blame them: AdSense "Rents" ATS space to install its ads - in other words AdSense pays ATS in exchange for ATS letting AdSense place its ads.

Free revenue for ATS.

That's why I browse with the sound down.

It appears that they use a different version of Google advertisement publishing...Double Click. The best way to explain it is Google Adsense on steroids.

I believe that they use Chitika as well, or at least they used to. Correct me if I am wrong but Google allows the publisher to control which type of ads they want to use. Most people choose banner ads and not the intrusive ones that this thread is about.

My observations about which ads are being used could be incorrect, but I believe them to be true.

LOL I remember the days when if you mentioned ad-block - Instant ban.

I haven't read the T&C lately but I'm assuming bragging about using ad-blocker isn't the best idea.

Ahhhh, yes, those horrible ads that blurt out of my speakers! Being the night owl that I am, it sends shivers of fear through me when the house is so quiet you could hear a pin drop and all of a sudden I hear a voice coming from the other room. If that's not scary enough, how about waking up from a dead sleep to hear someone "talking" a loud voice in a house when you know you are alone? Those video ads sometimes bring my computer out of sleep mode. Guess I'll have to close this site when I'm not actively reading it.

Ok, you've piqued my curiosity.

"Costing you Customers"?

I know in all my years as a member, and as lurker before joining, I've never had to pay any sort of subscription fee; so... what did you come to ATS to purchase?

While the ads ARE needed for ATS to 'make money', they are not only annoying, but are also a CPU hog. When the main page comes up, there are so many ads coming up and playing that usually 2 out of my four
CPU processors are pegged out and it brings my PC to its knees. Static ads are one thing, but running multiple video ads, at the same time, is a nightmare...

I've noticed that the more we complain (there have been several threads about this lately), the worse it gets...are you purposely trolling us ATS?

You're are correct. Google AdSense doesn't just install itself on websites. You apply for an account, choose the type of adverts And advertising and then place them on your site where you feel they will most likely generate the most income.
