I love this thread. When I put up a thread about the guys here deserving some sort of title it was before I'd joined in, you were correct.

It's just fun to mess around and if an avatar gets taken up it's just a pleasure to see it and think 'Hey I did that'

Ill put my ignorant 2 cents in and say that even with rudimentary tools you did a great job
In fact I dont see how it could have been better

maybe photo shop makes things easier but you need to have a creative mind and spirit (sadly Im lacking in both ) which all you guys on here have.
On behalf of the tech tards and creatively challenged like myself,we all appreciate the effort and work all of you guys put in for us so we can look sexy when struttin the boards here.

I agree , I think photoshop makes things easier, having everything in one place I assume. (Not having to open 3 different programs for working on a pic.)

Just keep practicing with it. I've had CS5 for about two years now and I don't even know half of it. Every so often I pretty much accidently come across some new feature or little thing I didn't know about it and add it to the arsenal of what can be done.

The main thing? Just remember Ctrl-Z is your best friend. Another thing I do sometimes is sketch out the image on paper first, kind of a mud map of how I want it to go together. Then fit it all in on the computer, then add effects I need afterwards. There's pretty much endless possibilities with most of the paint programs, I use a combination of CS5 and Paint Shop Pro 9, I find PSP simpler but not as feature-heavy as CS5, it's good for just doing medium to advanced stuff, then bring out CS5 as my big gun if I need it.

It's all just practice and learning. You definetely have to have a creative eye, but when someone says "I want this in an avatar" and your brain just clicks with the image you want, run with it.

One of the things that I wish GIMP had was what you showed in the old thread, the 'auto blend' when merging 2 pics together. Nice
I hunted and played with various things in GIMP and unless I overlooked it, no such thing
So I still do it the longer way but hey, it works, just takes more time

Oh great! I get a side chair too. I have those long legs that need to stretch out too.
