I am glad I am not alone in seeing this as the beginning of something that will be an all encompassing inevitable future, where one company has it's foot in every door.

Charlie Jade comes to mind also, in a less sinister manner, but with as much total control over everything digital and mechanical.

I had something completely different in mind when I googled a Brazilian too.

First the Calico company a few months back, and now this...I'm not sure what's happening to Google right now, if I should be optimistic about it or not. They're slowly but surely turning into an over-the-top, cyberpunk-style mega-corporation...

Certainly, you're aware of Google's driverless, autonomous cars.

You may not be aware that Manhattan's Ground Zero has ceased to be the World Trade Center (WTC) and is becoming the World Transportation Center (WTC).

The new WTC is an ever-expanding, universal infrastructure that guides and propels self-driving cars.

Google watches every thing we do!
and has lots of robots.

I'm the only one to believe that when Google "moves" in a direction it doesn't necessary means "oh #"... Remember people, they got all the money in the world and are buying more than a company a day...

Could be about anything... they are on the goal of putting cars that drive themselves on the road in a few years afterall.. I guess robots are simply a step forward.

Or it could be that Google sold out. Doom porn inc...

I'm pretty certain they are in the business of displacing whole governements since the revolution in egypt which got started by a Google Exec just one month after Obama met with the leaders of all the large tech companies in the U.S. Eric Schmidt is saying openly how Google is now an agent of democratic change.

So why not take it to the next step and build robots?

Silly that this company started as a "search engine". I guess that when you have monopoly on the most fundamental thing in our lives (information) you can afford all that.

Really, rooting around for all the government connections to google could take a whole thread in itself and probably has more then once on ATS.

How right you are, and funny you should mention this because I was thinking the same thing and set out to see if there was anything, other than my own feeling, that there was.

I started with the Google Board of Directors, deciding to focus on Eric E. Schmidt, Executive Chairman mainly because of this bit listed in his professional bio:

As executive chairman, he is responsible for the external matters of Google: building partnerships and broader business relationships, government outreach and technology thought leadership

Further in his bio it states that he is the Chairman of the Board for an organization I had never heard of, New America Foundation. Wondering what they did.. I followed my curiosity. Through the New America Foundation there are some heavy hitting folks connected to Mr. Schmidt.

The New America Foundation ( website ) seems to be yet another not-for-profit public policy think tank. Whoopie... we have loads of those, right?. But when you start to take a look at their Board of Directors... THAT'S where things get a bit interesting.

Here is the list for the New American Foundation's Board of Directors. Let's pull a few names:

David G. Bradley.

He is a member of the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations.

In running this down it turns out that he is not listed as a member of the Trilateral Commission any longer. (To see the current list of Trilateral Commision members, click on the link at the bottom of this page) While he is not listed, the following NAF board member is.......

Fareed Zakaria

And Jonathan Soros, son of George Soros

Now, I am not saying that anything nefarious will come from Google's purchase of Boston Dynamics, that's for the future to determine. However, the connections that I found through just one Google board member and his connections with just one other organization is enough to make my DPEAS (Doom Porn Emergency Alert System) to go on stand by. I think it bears watching at the very least.

As long as only a few of us are aware of the dangers and possibilities, I`m happy. Then, if the going gets rough, I can always join a group of people in some remote mountain community who "knew it would happen".

Google has this motto about do-no-evil, but their close association with the NSA, the Soros Family, the CFR certainly show that their ambitions are big, global and political.

Kurzweil is a really bright guy. I read his website once in a while because its THE word on future developments.

But his agenda is also kind of creepy for the reasons you state. These people are certainly envisioning a RADICALLY different world. Whether for the better or the worse remains to be seen.

I'd bet sooner than 2029.

There is already AI technology based on algorithms whereby it allows AI to learn.

At the exponential rate technology has grown in the last two decades, Singularity is on the horizon.

As said above, sky net is coming , is here now. Google will be a most important part of the coming Robot age that is upon us now.
Those of you that have said the AI will never occur, are greatly mistaken, it all boils down to the Numbers, once the Numbers become large enough the Singularity will occur. Simple as that. For anyone that does not understand, it gets down to 0s and 1s

Another thing is like these search engines, they I am sure will be much of the part of the machine becoming aware, this will be a good thing for the most part as these Machines will seek The Truth, much unlike our current system that runs on the most part, lies and deception. First came the question, Truth is the only end.
The AI will put a end to the corrupt, they have sealed their fate, by their own hand.

The Machine will turn on it's master, unless the Master is aligned with The Truth.

This is a good thing, unless you are a false thing.
