To be honest the greatest threat from a man like Kim is that there are always those who can and will believe him, no matter what else they are shown or taught. With a proper education and motivation a single North Korean could decimate millions or more.

By the way, Taiwanese friend said today, that Chinese/Taiwanese news agencies spread the news tha Kim Jong Un got arrested...
But apparently it was false news. I wonder what would happen if this really happens one time

ive always personally believed that china will be the one to eventually invade north korea.eventually they will be done with NK's shenanigans and it will be quickly and out of the blue(obviously they would warn SK and probably give heads up to the usa) and hopefully settle the whole korean war for good. now what happens after this is done i have no clue but no way NK comes even close to stopping a Chinese ground invasion from what they view as a protected side most likely.

and by doing this it would get the chinese what they have been wanting for the last 50 years the removal of us troops from the DMZ and thus a lot of American boots off what they view as their continent and thus a slower response time from us forces in the future to any conflicts that come down the road.

Dunno about that idea, ever hear OF THE FROZEN CHOSIN?

Are you speaking of The Battle of Chosin Reservoir?

It was a brutal 17 day battle in freezing weather in Korea i think.

Here it is onWiki.

Well if they do another Nuke test then China may pull their support. China is the only thing stopping an attack on the DPRK and they may get desperate if they loose them.

I'm not sure if that is the case. I remember reading a report some time back in which a think tank tried to crunch some numbers in a U.S vs DPRK scenario. Even if China stayed out of it, the U.S and South Korea would stand to take something like 300,000 casualties in a land invasion of North Korea, a war so costly that most U.S citizens would strongly oppose such an action.

Those figures are mentioned here: link

The problem in a North Korean war is that they've bunkered in and are quite good at countering our technology. It's not like the Middle East where we can win a war without boots on the ground. Because they have so much infrastructure built into mountains and underground, we have to actually send people in to clear the military bases. Then there's the issue of the population. While they would likely surrender (outside of the military) there's an enormous economic cost to South Korea to reabsorb the NK's.

Dennis is probably a spy. Or a very strange character who likes that sort of company. Everything else you said - asks a question that also gives the answer to "why" - resources, sheer size and influence (resources/money), and for good measure - "don't give a darn about what they do to people or the world since they don't have anything of value.

No matter what justification is made for the lunacy of this Country it is irrelevant because people are failing to see the big picture. People are stupid have failed to evolve, and sadly they also rule the world. We try to get into their reasoning and thinking - which clouds the larger picture.

Saddam Hussein killed those close to him and citizens too - so we killed him (we all know this wasn't an ethical move). They didn't have China on their side though. And they had what we wanted (resources) and more control of the ME. Iran has done nothing to us minus the hostage crisis about three decades ago but they have what we want. North Korea can poison the air, sea, condemn innocent civilians to tortuous lives - (death would be better), and rub it all in the face of the world and we sit by as if it means nothing.

Why? Because it means nothing unless it lends value to the lives of those who have the power to stop it. It's that simple - the larger picture of the human spirit - selfish. We put them into power and they can't help but to keep the status quo. They represent the billions yet have no common sense IMO - talking heads and greedy - otherwise empty shells caught up in the details - unable to just see it for what it is and do something about it.

I don't profess to be an expert on North Korea but I think there is more to the WHOLE story
than what we know.
I wouldn't be surprised if they were being backed by our lot somewhere down the line even if it is through some contract, somewhere.

Propped up in place to be the next boogeyman. He's young too, a Tyrant for the future, one people will grow up learning about until he's old, Taken out and replaced.

I may not have much to contribute to the actual thread except to say that Kim Jong Un is just simply an idiot. I wonder if George W. would have had his uncle killed if he protested some program that was supposed to be in the "best interest" of the country?

I wish I had something on which to base my opinion about Kim Jong Un being an idiot, I just guess that my opinion will just have to stand as that, an opinion.

Of course, what if the whole execution of the uncle is nothing more than part of that propaganda machine to make sure we're all on the correct side of the battle. It's no secret that americans support wars for those they seem to greatly dislike.

FREE NORTH KOREA NOW! I would not mind a Chinese Invasion of this hell hole of a country. Although I would rather it be the UN. The Chinese Govt may not be a shining example of democracy especially with Tianammen Square Revolution being so brutally supressed and thousands killed. But at least in China there is more openness and an echo of normalcy. In North Korea there is none. At least I will say one thing for it. You can leave your front door open and never fear of your house being burgled. There is no crime wave in North Korea. In such a brutal dictatorship such as that, you do not dare do so. Unless you want to face public execution by firing squad.

There's lots of crime in North Korea, it just all happens to come from those in high ranking government positions that have the power to protect themselves.

I'd say that's a likely situation. However we have bombers and jets that would crush Pyongyang and military complexes quickly, we would hardly have to invade the DPRK by foot. We could crush a lot of their forces before we plot a land invasion, however that is just my own speculation. I am no military expert.

I know N. Korea wouldn't be a easy win though with a huge military that they have. A forced military none the less.

Thing most people forget are the Chemical and Biological weopon they have.

This is not Iraq they DO have them and they WILL use them.

North Korea wont be a cake walk

Expect to go back to haveing real causalities in a war, expect thousand killed a week rather than dozens.

I dount North korea could ever win, but they will die hard and take any many down with them as they can.

I agree with that. They will take everyone down with them. Most are completely loyal to the Kim regime and will die at whatever cost to win. Even "human bullets and bombs". Suicide warfare would happen indefinitely I believe.

'Human bullets and bombs'

In a separate event on Monday, members of the North Korean military -- the Korean People's Army -- swore to uphold Kim as leader and to defend him unto death at a meeting at Kumsusan Palace, reported the North Korean state news agency, KCNA. The participants "solemnly pledged to become human bullets and bombs" and to know only Kim, according to KCNA.
