...and the band played on. Seems like this is an everyday occurrence now. And the Court seals the records of the case? Why???? Is that even legal?

The officers then stepped on the bird intentionally, killing it, court documents say.

Havoc and destruction are SOP. They go out of their way to make sure that even in the event of an aquittal you're heavily scarred for life.

Where are the good cops? I hear there are lots of them.

Why don't the good cops get together and cover the legal settlements from the police pension and not the general fund of the municipality (e.g. tax money from working people).

OK, open the floodgates so all the moral, ethical good cops can confirm how effective this would be....

The parakeet must not have wanted to be a jail bird.

Seems to me like there's another side to this story.

Where's PETA?

What?

You can harass people for wearing leather jackets but police stomping on a bird killing it isn't worthy?

Either way this is getting ridiculous.

lol.

Maybe it assaulted an officer. 'Suicide by cop'?

It sounds ridic. but as you say there are two sides to every story.

My way to prevent the nonsense is not to cause a disruption that attracts the police.

All charges were eventually dropped and sealed by Richmond County Supreme Court, the lawsuit says.

All charges were dropped? That doesn't bode well for the officers. Sounds like they really were in the wrong, with everything they did.

Yeah, any award should come directly from the officers themselves.

I think police officers should have to have, and buy themselves, some type of insurance, for when things like this happen. That way, if they didn't have it, they could be fired. And they would be dropped and have no insurance, if they got sued for doing something like this. Good cops would be fine, bad ones weeded out, not protected by the other bad ones.

It is happening way too often.

"We got no food, we got no jobs....OUR PET'S HEAD'S ARE FALLING OFF!!"

Sorry, dumb and dumber just kicked in on me.....

This stuff makes you sick that these people "protect and serve"....I wish some of these criminal police officers would lose their jobs every now and again to send a message that this stuff needs to stop.

Two sides? Maybe to pepper spray someone for not being cooperative.

When inside, police allegedly struck Avellanet two or three times with a hard object, struck their friend in the face and threw a woman into the dresser with the bird cage on it, court documents say.
- op source
But to just kill the bird, beat the people, come on. Nothing short of an uncalled for, of course, power trip.

There are no words.
I'm waiting for them to dash infants brains out on the concrete, That is the only thing more horrible than stepping on a chick.

Maybe some more details about the case other than a title and a link might be nice.

Not when all charges are dropped and everyone is released from jail.
If you committed a crime, the cops don't just arrest you and then turn around and say "Hey, sorry about that, we'll just forget you had a bag of drugs, we'll pretend you didn't assault us. Go on home now and enjoy the rest of your day!"
If there was even one shred of evidence of anyone in that family doing something illegal, they'd still be in jail.

I read the story and I can't tell what really went on. Facial laceration, head lacerations, Asthma attack and a dead Parakeet were the result.

Something sounds fishy and slightly comical

Sounds like a typical day in the life of the police state.

Emptying trash must have been probable cause to enter the property.

Oh, come on, guys. I think maybe people are being kinda hard on the police.

That bird was probably just resisting.

Completely the bird's fault. If it had just stayed out of the situation, instead of getting its feathers all ruffled and butting in, it would still be alive.

Birds are dangerous. Seen the movie? They peck eyes and carry disease.

The officers were obviously in fear for their lives.

The cops didn't want that bird to talk.

If you READ , the whole thing started when the son went out to put garbage in the can, a cop stopped. asked him for his ID, he refused.. and it was ON.

Good citizen, show your papers or youll be assaulted, windows broke out of your house, pets killed.. and the real criminals( in this case.. the nuovo stasi) get off free.
