Question about laws on the other side of the pond.

When these charges are laid, are they using current law or do they use the law that was on the books when the offense occurred?

What about punishment? Use the punishment that was on the books at the time or does it use todays punishments (prison time / fines / what have you).

That I don't know.

I know nothing about law, English or otherwise.

What I do know is that RH is probably kicking himself that he doesn't live Stateside.

He could have challenged the evidence against him without budging an inch from his home, and the extradition request could easily have been turned down.

And so - no court case (which, at age 72, will doubtless reduce his limited time left on planet Earth).

& Pete Townshend was just doing research...

If all the paedophiles of the world were to stand trial in sequence, we'd be running court cases 'til the Sun supernovas.

I don't want to sound if I'm excusing or condoning what these people have done but it seems to me they are offering up a few doddery old men as sacrificial lambs in an effort to distract attention away from something else.

Still, anyone can tell a 13 year old is under the age of consent - the scumbag deserves all he get's.

As for Roy Harper it seems one of these groupies from 40 years ago sees an opportunity by bringing up what may be deemed inappropriate behavior at the time. Underage teenage girls and rock bands were the norm in the 70s. It's despicable behavior in any decade, but that's how it was back then.

As for Pete Townshend, his excuse was that he was doing research for a book he was writing. He used a credit card to access a website with child porn images. Stupid or legitimate? Who knows, as a major Who fan it cast a major "WTF?" shadow on him in my eyes. Some info on that story:

I mean, to me I cannot think of something more abhorrent than what these people did or do. Seriously it just strikes me as the most appalling 'secret' you can harbour and one that should fill someone's soul with shame and guilt.

Yet the more we hear about it, the more it appears it was a club. A god damned club where these people looked out for each other. They secreted children into each others homes and places of work and the more disgusting of them, paraded them on national public television, all the while knowing that they were evil sick scum, but smiling about it.

I just cannot even put my mind into that sort of mindset and not feel instant nausea.

It's like Rosemary's Baby in reality... the sick freaks are all around you and only when you look, do you see how little you can do about it.. token arrests do nothing. like picking off guards at the castlepalace, you never get inside where the real targets hide.

Apparently the police had evidence in 1986 and did nothing. The sex offender who organised these parties is apparently Sidney Cooke who murdered one of his victims. His parties were reportedly attended by Jimmy Savile and Cyril Smith aswell as this still living ex-tory. It looks like pretty damning evidence, Mp's at orgies with a child murderer but then again things have a habit of getting covered up.

I believe her name was Pamela Debarres. She wrote the book, "I'm with the band". Besides sleeping (well, not really sleeping, but...) with a who's who of musical icons, she also was Frank Zappa's nanny. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

I started reading a book about Led Zepellin and in it, it alluded to the fact that Jimmy Page would only go after 14 year olds. I stopped reading it when I found this out, it really made me sick.

I guess all these guys from the 70's were part of a club, but it stretches far wider than celebrities. Politicians, business men and some top police officers have been linked to these terrible acts.

It appears they are willing to sacrifice some celebrities in order to protect the truth from ever being fully exposed.

14 is a year and some days away from being age of consent (in UK), and I thought the Lori Maddox thing was kinda well known. At least as a big Zeppelin fan I was aware of it.

Not to defend these guys, but it WAS a different time. Going WAY back for a minute, remember Romeo and Juliet were also 14 and 13. With every passing decade it seems people become more immature well into their 20's or even 30's, so our modern perception of what is a child is MUCH different than even 50years ago.

Add that girls routinely lie about their age and can look older if they try. My own sister was out getting served liquor when she was 15 with a fake ID (her mother knew and didn't even take it from her). The other night I was having hibachi and a group at our table had a birthday. The chef asked the girl how old she was and she said 10, he was like WHAT?? And asked her to stand up. She was easily 5ft9 and 180lbs. Looked about 15 or 16.... I kinda laughed and looked at my wife saying "bovine growth hormone?" (it's in milk).


Again not to legitimize these guys, but I think they would do better focusing on the pre-pubescent kiddy fiddlers. Hollywood is apparently rife with it also, as exposed by many (most recently I recall Corey Feldman writing about it).
