A flock of 10,000+ starlings put on quite an impressive show near Gretna, Scotland...

The formations and music are amazing and beautiful.

Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

and this one you may have seen from few year ago in ireland ...

vimeo.com...

I have always looked up at awe at this site .. every year since i was a child .. and kinda took it for granted that birds do this all around the world ..

i think i read somewhere a few year ago, that its mainly only the UK that sees this site ... can anyone clarify that ? ... I just giggled it .. and it seems theres various brands of starlings around the world .. but no mention of this type of behaviour ...

I saw this a couple of years ago, just not as big. How do they not all kill themselves by running into each other? Seriously, they don't have radar, but the quickness of their mental capacity to turn, swerve, avoid things (of course all birds have this to avoid branches and other birds, but hey....) and know where to go next, is amazing. And if I were an insect humming along, minding my own business, and saw this mess heading towards me, I'd be landing and ducking my head under a leaf so quick it would make the swarm spin.

thanks for the thread, quite a sight.

WOW! That was beautiful. Thanks for posting.

I cant imagine how those girls felt. The girl at the end of the video looks happy & slightly spooked at the same time.

We have starlings, but I have never in my life seen that many together. I would have thought something was terribly wrong. LOL Amazing!!
