Recently, Scott has taken his investigations into Col. Howard Vyse a step further, and,in another forum, explains that:

... from his private journal that he bought books by Champollion and Rosellini (at considerable expense) enroute to Egypt. Presumably he had an interest in hieroglyphics even at this early stage.

But it seems that not everyone agrees.

Perhaps Scott might have something to say on this question ... ?
