America and Afghanistan are close to signing a strategic pact which would allow thousands of United States troops to remain in the country until at least 2024, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

War. Moremoremore war.

Gimme that war!

*sigh*

Sometimes it feels as though we (in Oceania) are constantly fighting those in Eurasia and Eastasia.
(for those that don't get it, google "1984")

Would love to open a discussion on the perpetual war-state we find ourselves in.

I'm saddened and already exhausted with this news.

You need to understand why it is so... China, Iran and Pakistan, having bases there is a must have for Imperial America (or the idiots that believe it that concept). The next decade will be the turning point, its do or break and all data points seem to point one way...

Big phrama spends a lot of money buying our politicians. So when phrama has gotten what they want out of the area then we will leave.

So sad, I agree.

The other day, I heard from RT the number is 16,000? But like Iraq, they can claim anything, just call them "contractors" from here on out. Instant troop removal…

Our government is good at this. For instance, I have been waiting my entire life for the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination for them to open the "sealed" records. Now its going to be 75 years.

Rewriting the past as it happens, right before our very eyes.

These are not the 'droids you are looking for, you may go on about your business.

beez... havent you studied the roman army?

Those legions arent suppose to come back home. Ever. Theres no place for them. They will keep moving them, from hot spot to hot spot... but coming back? Never.

Hell, I'm more disgusted by that news, than anything else.

I don't stick my nose into my neighbors affairs, nor do I linger where I don't feel appreciated. I only wish that our elected officials had the morality, and the self respect, to do the same.

See ya buddy,
Milt

Did anyone believe Biden when he said, no less than 4 times in the VP Debate, we absolutely and positively were leaving Afghanistan in 2014? He even thought it cute to make fun of his opponent, given that the outcome was so..obvious, and certain, as he presented it.

Yeah.. Right... leaving in 2014. The only thing leaving seems to be the numbers required to keep the ones left, safe and breathing.

What's leaving is the ability to call 911 and get help quickly, anywhere it's needed before being over-run and destroyed.

This is insane because nothing about Afghanistan will have changed. It's been a war zone since 1979 (much longer, really) and it'll be a warzone after the bulk of the troops leave for political points here soon. The enemy still wants us dead. So how is it better we leave enough behind to lose, but not enough to keep it from happening?

Thanks for all the replies.

A comment though.

Terrorist attacks have occurred in the west because of the involvement in the Middle East. Our actions there were meant to stop that.

I think that our staying there long-term will precipitate even more attacks, make us more vulnerable, and be used as a means to impose more draconian laws on the populace.

The first crusades lasted how long? 1000 through the 1200's or something like that?

We got a while to go IMO.

Just a note to say there might be deeper reasons for being there. I read somewhere(can't seem to find it right now) just this morning that Afghanistan is sitting on a gold mine of lithium. Since there are only a few places in the world that have it I would think that TPTB would be willing to sacrifice as many of us as necessary. I believe that Brazil, US, Afghanistan, and China are the only places it is found. I should have done a thread while I had the information in front of me.

The War on Afghanistan is a Profit driven "Resource War".

This is not the one I was reading but still tells the story.

The first? 96 to 99 I think... just 3 years. But there were around 9 crusades till the 13th century. Although there were a few minor ones... and THEN there were more around the 15th century... so yes, a long way to go if you're thinking like that lol

That was just a little confusion between Obama and Biden about what they were supposed to be promising. Biden was supposed to say, "If you like our troops, you can keep them." Obama was supposed to promise, "Your health insurance policy will be gone by 2014." I think it was just a teleprompter mix-up.

I think you figured it out.
