China is hilarious. They get ripped by corporations like Starbucks and GM. China can fund plan and execute whatever space missions they want. When their missions fail they will have wasted ridiculous amounts of money and defund their space programs or go bankrupt trying to conquer the unknown.

Space technology that works comes from NASA and technological innovation comes from America its not a game were gonna be one upped on anytime soon.

China looks good on paper but they don't have nearly the real world resources of America and American innovation.

Sounds like something a Brit would have said around the late 1800s.

I hate to break it to you but in addition to this India just launched its first Mars probe: India's First Mars Probe Begins Journey to Red Planet

The world no longer revolves around the US. And space never did.

It's not China's fault that the world's 2 biggest nuclear super-powers (for 50- year+) gave up on the moon. Or did they??

At one time China had the world's greatest navy. China built many ships which sailed to the west coast of what became the USA 70 years before Columbus.

In a twist of history their leader ordered all the ships destroyed.

So Columbus gets the credit for "discovering" America.

It's ironic that as the US has become increasingly myopic, self absorbed and hostile to big government programs, effectively killing the ambitious plans NASA had for a moon base by 1978 and a manned mission to Mars by 1985), that China who learned their lesson after destroying their ships would decide to one up the US who destroyed their Saturn V and now has to spend billions to recreate essentially the same thing with SLS/Orion?

What is there for human bodies in outterspace? Death! NO HUMAN WILL EVER VISIT ANOTHER SOLAR SYSTEM IT IS NOT POSSIBLE AS HUMAN BEINGS. Everything we know about science tells us that.

WOW! If everyone thought like you, we would still be in the dark ages. Science is changing all the time, with new ideas and theories on space travel. To say its impossible, just because "science" tells us that now, is a bit ignorant, considering how primitive we are when it comes to space technology and what we know. Hence the reason why we hear theories all the time.

Can you show me what theories exist, that transport humans from Earth to our suns closest neighbor at 4.2ly
That's 28,216,799,200,000miles away. That's 28trillion miles its a really big number. Let's start our travel speed at

1million/mph = 3,200 years flight. Hmm that's not gonna work at all.
10million/mph = 321 years. That doesn't seem reasonable.
30million/mph = 107 years now were talking just enough time to get there and die.

Its simple math anyone can understand the problem.

To achieve these speeds would require vast amounts of energy, it would also require the same amount of energy to stop at your destination.

Lord Kelvin, the President of the Royal Society of England made a forceful declaration. "Heavier than air flying machines are impossible."

8 years later the Wright Brothers flew at Kitty Hawk, NC.

You make several assumptions that are right up there with the Lord Kelvin. If you want I can take them down one by one. Clearly you have never heard of generation ships either...

But I'd ask, how much do you know about sub-light interstellar studies?

Since you mentioned Alpha/Proxima Centauri.... you might want to start here:

US Naval Academy Study - Project Longshot: An Unmanned Probe To Alpha Centauri - 1986

Spoken like a true Merycan... Dude your an idiot if you think the chinese are not gonna best you in 10 years max...
nobody trust americans anymore and youve become fat, lazy and stupid in just a couple of decades... Man your screwed!!

I bet the Chinese don't have a man on the moon in 10 years which would be OVER 50 years behind the US.

Funny how the fat and lazy whooped the world in the last Olympics and landed on Mars all on the same year too

How many Gold Medals did America get and How Many Gold Medals did China get?
You want the answer? USA, 36 Gold Medals, China, 51 Gold Medals.
But then again, that has nothing to do with going and mining the Moon, China will and America won't as long as we have Obama and his band of Thugs using our Tax Dollars to Push his Loser Health Care Scam!

President Obama's 2011 budget request for NASA cut the agency's Constellation program completely, effectively canceling a five-year, $9 billion effort to build new Orion spacecraft and Ares rockets.
The new space vehicles were slated to replace NASA's three aging space shuttles (due to retire this year) and launch astronauts into orbit and on to the moon.

Nasa Grieves over Cancellation
Thanks to obama and I would assume the cost to build his ACA website and his free phones and other freebies for Votes,,, America won't be going into Space with out the Help of the Russians, India or China as long as obama and his Chicago Thugs and their policies are in place to keep Americans on their knees with their hands.

What is this? Revisionist history? Is this the US Political Madness forum? No. it's Space Exploration....

Need I remind YOU:

So, we'd likely already have found other Earths WITH LIFE ON THEM had Bush not killed this program, the Shuttle as well (yep, it was Bush's administration who retired the Shuttle in favor of "Constellation") and a ton of other space science programs.

Take your Tea Party hat off and realize for one moment that none of what you cite has to do with Obama.

Instead it has to do with the steady drum beat that a party which has a vocal anti-science wing suspicious of "intellectuals" and "big government programs" (so long as they aren't defense/black budget related) has been beating relentlessly since the early 1990s.

Most in space science say Bush was the worst president ever for that reason. He did nothing to reign in that wing. Instead he rolled out the welcome mat for them and that party is more anti-science today than ever.

You know that space telescope Kepler that's been finding all of the planets? Well it too was set to get the ax by Bush's admin but it survived due to some cost cutting, and Obama signed the on to the budget which allowed NASA to extend the mission so that it could complete its goal of determining the percentage of sunlike stars that have a planet like Earth. Which we now know is around 22% +/- 8%)

Unfortunately, that may be all we know for the next 5-10 years because the missions that would have told us more WERE CANCELLED BY BUSH.

Constellation needed to be cancelled as it was too expensive after the de-regulated Wall Street ate itself in 2008.

Orion lives on though and has an actual flight scheduled for next year.

The cancellation of Constellation was a good idea. It was already too expensive and would have eaten up everything at NASA, which can't afford to waste as much as the NRO does on failed contractor welfare.

SpaceX will do the supply missions, and soon enough, astronaut transportation missions far less expensively, and probably more competently.

Congress sets the overall funding level for NASA, not the President.

Dat Chinese propaganda. USA whooped China in every medal count from gold to bronze.

In fact, the Chinese have NEVER won the Olympics whereas the US have been the champs for the last six events!

As of now, China has manifested itself into the world’s most advanced aerospace and aeronautical research centers. Efforts are on to build a fleet of space soldiers as well. Developing crafts that will be able to handle tough weathers and can fly in the dark are other areas of focus of the Chinese air force.

I think us westerners will be truly screwed if the Chinese Air Force develops an aircraft that can fly in the dark!
