The Japanese..in their ongoing quest for power,,.have hatched a ingenious plan to begin constuction of the ultimate superlaser weapon system to be based on the moon,,,

this "superlazer" would carry more than 3X the firepower of the United States

the plan calls for stripping the moon of it's natural resources & building narrow band around its equator that would only be vulnerable too a small one-man spacecraft..

Although the Japanese claim it will only be used for peaceful purposes,,,Are you sure ya want to take that chance??

edit for.. er dumbpost
*** delete - put foot in mouth ***
Hmm.. So why put the solar ring all the way around the moon?
Half of the moon never faces the sun.
*** remove foot from mouth ***

Shimizu is reluctant to put a price tag on the construction costs involved

I bet they are.

"small one man craft" huh? I'll bet that pilot will have to fire photon torpedoes right down a maintenance shaft in order to set off a chain reaction to destroy it....

Bet it'll be easier than shooting womp-rats back home in Beggar's Canyon, right?

:-)

It's a bold and ambitious plan but I fail to see why everone assumes it will (or even could) be used as a weapon. The more pressing concern for Japan at the moment is simply keeping the lights on.

Half the moon never faces the sun? Half the moon never faces the earth. The backside does get sunlight. The Earth and the moon are in a geosynchronous orbit with each other so the same side of the moon always faces the Earth, not the sun.

Not usually, for some reason I was thinking about it's always facing us.

Sigh, busted, I skipped astronomy classes.

What about all the rocks and dust constantly bombarding the moon due to its lack of atmosphere ?

Are they going to fly up there every week and dust them off with a Swiffer Sweeper ?

On a more positive note: I see a massive uptick for moon janitor jobs...

I totally knew star wars was real! i've been a jedi since birth. I agree we must not let the death star get in the hands of those Japanese but the force is strong with those little fellers.

High-energy-density laser will be beamed to the receiving facilities. A guidance beacon (radio beacon) brought from the Earth will be used to ensure accurate transmission.

Shimizu Corp

Yup.

Definite potential to be used as a space-based weapons system...

Why do we need another death star weapon? This makes no sense.

This must mean they are finished with the Fukushima toxic waste dispersion project?

Oh, Thank God.
