White Man Wins Election by Pretending To Be Black

A very interesting story that appeared in an Italian Newspaper (Original story in Italian) about Dave Wilson:

Some might say he is a con artist; others might call him a genius. Whatever the case, Dave Wilson is certainly someone who knows how to reach his goals. A conservative, white Republican, Wilson won the election for the Houston Community College Board of Trustees in a heavily African-American district — something that has never been accomplished before. How did he manage it? The answer is simple: He pretended to be black. Rather, he neglected to mention he was white — and a conservative Republican.

How did he do this?

His first move: Dave Wilson had thousands of campaign flyers distributed and sent them out to people's homes. On them was printed not his own face but the faces of a few African-American kids instead. It did not even cost him very much; he just lifted the photo off of the Internet, and so, anyone receiving the flyer believed the candidate was a black man. The slogan next to the youths' faces read, "Please vote for our friend and neighbor Dave Wilson." How could anyone ever have suspected that he was a white Republican? They could not have, obviously. Contrary to what you might expect from a political candidate like Wilson, he was careful to stay out of the public eye and off the normal door-to-door election trail. He was deliberately misleading the unwitting voters, counting on his face not being recognized.

Classic. Just classic.

Actually, doesn't this say a lot, about people voting for someone, with out trying to learn anything about them?

Not that he wasn't underhanded, but obviously nobody did any digging into him either.

I don't think he ever pretended to be a black man.

I think the real problem here is people that just vote based on color. If he ran before and lost with the same platform while using his own image, the voters could be considered racist.

What's mind boggling is how racist these black people were voting for someone simply because they were black with knowing NOTHING about them. What if 100 white people were shown 2 pictures, one a black man and one a white man, and every white person said I vote for the white dude, would not every black person scream racism? Why is this any different? The racism here is disgusting.

The best part was getting his cousin to endorse him. It was a good thing his cousin had the same name as an ex-state representative. HAHAHA priceless.

It really was. These people got what they deserved. It's this EXACT type of voting that has America in the shape it is in. Sometimes I think the founders had it right to restrict voting access to those more likely to be educated about the issues.
