good you started a thread on this, I was reading some info on another thread about oregano.
but I also came in here because People say life is all about our own perspective and well, I had car trouble and when I first saw the thread in the Recent Posts list, I thought it said 'Engine Oil'
slightly off topic but it leads me to another question. Is oregano any good for 'inflammation'?

I am a clinical aromatherapist and have been for over 20 years. Oregano essential oil is NOT used in aromatherapy. It has far to many what are known as contr-indications. For example it is an abortifacent, it's a skin irritant, which can be irreversible to some, it damages the mucus membranes sometimes permanently. Mucus membranes aren't just in your nose.

Glad to see a thread devoted to Oregano Oil. I had cause to use it a few weeks ago when I went to a friends house and they complained to me of an exposed nerve from a cavity. Since I was at their house, not mine, I gave what relief I could with the tools they had available in their home but came back later with oregano oil.
My friend didn't want to go to the dentist because 1) nobody wants to go to the dentist and 2) they had called a dentist already and found out it would cost almost $300.00 to have the rotted tooth extracted!''
I carefully drew up a single drop of OO and diluted it with a single drop of olive oil and placed it directly on the exposed cavity. I dropped in daily for the next 3 days and repeated the process. My friend reported that the pain was gone with the first application (pain returned after about 6 hours but less severely). All pain and signs of infection were completely gone by third day. The exposed nerve was killed. Apparently. I'm not a dentist.
Point being, pain gone, infection gone, $300.00 bucks saved.

I don't feel the need to use gel caps. I just put three or four drops under my tongue, reason being, there are veins under the tongue that will transport it quickly to the bloodstream.
Re: damaging to tissues. Pure oregano oil, perhaps. But most oregano oil sold at health food stores is diluted 1 parts oregano oil to 4 parts olive or some other benign oil and has never been shown to damage tissues - irritate skin temporarily, sometimes, but not permanently.
A friend of mine had chlamydia so we treated him with oregano oil - gone.

Do you use wild oregano oil or just commercial oregano oil?
My understanding is that they are two different things.
Ive heard of the health benefits of wild oregano, and have used the wild oregano oil to clear sinus infections and other stuff. But, I was just curious as to which you were using.
And yes, the oil itself is turrible, I use a few drops in a glass of water 2 times a day, and that taste just lingers forever.......

I have used both and honestly I can't tell the difference, some people swear there is but I have had equal success with both. Wild oregano is about 3 to 5 times more expensive, but I feel people should try them both because one might work better for them.
And I don't do direct OO anymore, like you said the taste lingers forever.
Peace,

You are very hard core. Anyone that can weather putting it under their tongue deserves to get better fast.
Two reasons for gel caps one for noobs it protects them from the awful taste, and two it's sometimes hard to tell if your getting pure EO, or like you say cut with a carrier.
I myself have used it under the tongue but I could never get use of the taste.
Thanks for your input.

I've never tried this, but now I will ! I might even try to make some myself, from my herb garden. I found this site- more info on oregano oil, and how to make your own.
www.oregano-oil.com...
In the meantime, I'll buy a bottle and try it out over the winter. Thanks for telling us about it !
Just make sure you put it in Gel caps, cause if you don't you'll be cured from taking Oregano Oil ever again.
Nothing wrong with trying to make it yourself too, let us know how that turns out.
