Greetings,

I have been seeing MANY recent articles and threads on Russell Brand.
Comments like:

"He should be president."

"He is my god."

"Why isn't EVERYONE supporting this guy?"

Are VERY commonplace.
I however am not so sure about Mister Brand.
He is trying to rebrand (sorry, bad pun) Marxism and is being lauded for it?
Isn't O-BWAHHH-ma getting crapped on for trying to do the exact same thing?
How can so many people who oppose the sweeping socialist changes in America (and abroad) then embrace the platform Russell advocates with such blind abandon?
Many feel he is the leader of a "new revolution" but what Mister Brand suggests is no different from Karl Marx's vision.
He claims all profit is evil...but isn't that the entire purpose of Mister Brand's tv show and movies.
So, profit is bad unless it happens to be his?
I have also heard many say Russell is "the one we've been waiting for".
I do not agree.
If Russell was such a HUGE threat to the system...then why has the establishment given him the greenlight to say & do the things he does on primetime tv?
We "normal folks" get accused of being terrorists simply for refusing to produce i.d. at an illegal checkpoint but HE can advocate the downfall of the system without any reprocussions?
Something smells fishy here and it isn't low tide.
If he were truely a threat, he'd have been dealt with and not given an even greater access to the hearts and minds of the people.
Yes, Russell is eloquent and sounds like he comes off as intelligent but if I may be so blunt...that's his job. Actors are SUPPOSED to be convincing, if they're any good that is.
I'm not claiming the man's evil, nor am I implying there's a scheme at work and that he must be in on it.
I am saying he's not what everyone has been making him out to be.
It's just whenever someone tells me something which seems to good to be true...it's usually a lie.
I'll let Peter Schiff break it down:

Wait a second.
I've heard what he's saying.

How is saying that the system doesn't work. It caters only to the rich and excludes the poor marxist?

And the proof is in the pudding.

About $59 billion is spent on traditional social welfare programs. $92 billion is spent on corporate subsidies. So, the government spent 50% more on corporate welfare than it did on food stamps and housing assistance in 2006.

I don't know about you. But if you believe that we should not be giving anyone welfare. How can we allow corporations to get subsidies? Especially when they don't need them? ie: billion dollar profits and million dollar bonuses. This is where Russel is coming from.

well if he believed in God, the Abrahamic/jewish/Christian one,, he could use this

"Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness."

Cause actually True,,,Communist/Marxist,,no God. goes against their religion.

I can see where you're trying to coming from with this, but our angle of perception is a bit different.

What i see and have heard is not someone pushing a new doctrine, but only suggesting that one needs to be created. Most of the people who are saying "hes my god, be president etc etc" are already awake to these ideas, and its nothing new to us.
He's trying to get new people to think and open up to the possibility that, "hey, maybe this ISNT the best way we can be doing things?" so that more people have incentive to promote and cultivate change.

verbal shock and awe and the theatrics of primetime television are a magnificent way for this to be accomplished by a familiar face/personality.

While some of his personal opinions can be debated for arguments sake, the facts of what he's been speaking about are spot on. The system is corrupt and in favour of the elitist and corporate agenda while stomping on everyone else and covering the whole thing up.

The only reality that is relevant is: we have this planet. There are this many people on this planet. There are these resources. Any system that is in conflict with the even distribution of the resources to the people is a disingenuous and illusory system

"It's just whenever someone tells me something which seems to good to be true...it's usually a lie"

There lies YOUR problem.
Think for yourself,.....and because I TOLD you to think for yourself it means I'm a liar.
So who's WORD do you believe? Mine, Russell's or Obamas or TVland or forbid me for saying listen to your own mind.

He is man with an opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

People need to see that first, we all feel something is wrong with the current way of things.

Marxist, socialist, communist, fascist, capitalist,

What ever, it doesn't matter.

What matters is something is wrong and people are waking up.

I for one commend Russell Brand, he is atleast putting himself out there and saying something is wrong.

What I love is how quick people are to tear down the messenger, especially when what he is saying is something is woefully wrong with the disparity in our current society...

We are like battered women who rush to defend "her man" despite the constant degradation and beatings we receive...

I agree with much of what he says , I don't adore or worship him .
From what I understand he wants a change from the current system of liars and cheats to a new one of openness and honesty ...why is that a problem ?

A comedian recently summed up Russell Brand for me when he said about Russell being involved in the hacked off campaign to muzzle the press, due to the intrusion of his personal life.
Next minute hes on Paxmans show, sharing his personal opinion with the world.

My issue isnt with the criticism of the left/right paradigm and the corruption of government, my issue is with his proposed solution...Egalitarian Socialism.

Even his youtube page avatar has him in the classic Che Guevara pic, with all the religious symbols around his neck.

Although I agree with most of what Russell says, Im skeptical of his "true" motives.
He is very articulate, but then so was Obama.
And yet he is only a comedian, that not only looks messianic, but has a tour called the messiah complex.
Methinks he is playing on his appearance.
But I will wait and see where his "activism" leads, before completely ruling out his credibility.

Technically he is a comedian that does acting,... he has been talking about revolution for years, he had a show on radio 2 in the uk around 6 or 7 years ago and the whole revolution and free tibet was his "thing" its only getting picked up now. He is part of the fellowship (NA) and has done the 12 steps so his outlook on life may be different from your average joe.

Greetings,

First off, I'd like to thank everyone who replied.

Egalitarian Socialism.
The word "socialism" throws up red flags on my playing field.
Three words keep flashing in my head every time I hear the "s" word...

Former-Soviet-Union.

My truck goes into reverse from that point on.
He honestly seems like a "what's not to like?" kinda guy...but more taxation isn't going to fix this problem.
A "Debt Jubilee" is really the only way to go at this point...like iceland did but on a global scale.
It's all ponzi-fraud anyways.
My knowledge of Brand I will admit is limited in that the only movie of his I have seen is "Arthur" and I have only seen 3-4 episodes of his UK tv shows on youtube.
Still feeling neutral.
