I don't think anybody would argue that what this idiot did was not really stupid, but for christ's sake he was an unarmed 19 year old. I swear to god, if my kids do something dumb they get punished, but killing another human being for making a series of bad decisions, decisions that could of harmed other people true, I find that sickening, and it sickens me more that ordinary folk condone it.

Officer Adam D McPherson age 32 fired the shots. Didn't try boxing him in and tazer or the countless other ways to diffuse the situation. Also ignored orders to back off the chase here recording of entire event including the boys death on audio of police scanner

During the chase, Comstock rammed McPherson’s car. The truck eventually stopped, but Comstock revved the engine and refused orders to turn it off.

The "kid" led the cops on a vehicular chase and rammed a police car with his truck. Then when ordered out of the truck revved it like he was going to ram again. Sounds like self defense to me.

I normally have little sympathy for cops who shoot unarmed people but this kid was armed with a truck and had already shown he was prepared to use it against people. I'd have shot at him too.

The cop was armed with a police car and a gun, have you seen the video? at some point, around a corner the truck stops, way ahead of the police car, still the car rams the truck from the back, then the chase continues.

If i do a complete stop and i see a dumb retarded armed man hitting me like that for no reason whatsoever, i would feel threatened and decide to escape since things seem to be turning for the worst. And if they were warned to end the chase 'twice', why did they continue?

Sure he was a dumb "kid", but the cop was dumber since he didn't seem to be able to think and act properly, he just chased and killed like a programmed idiot, the more i see the video, the more i see a ridiculous chase, they just invented themselves a "dangerous subject" that needs to be put down.

He could just stop behind the truck that first time, then "if" something else happened, react properly, but in this case its very obvious the tragic end was caused by the dumb cop and his unreasonable actions.

Having read about this when I first found out, there are a few things that can be stated, before we blame the cops.

This 19 yo person, was in and out of trouble for a bit. He was not an angle, make no mistake on that. He did have a rap sheet, and was slowly trying to get his life in order. He had broken up with his girlfriend, and was at home. According to his family he was attending a bible study class as part of straightening out his life. He got into an argument with his father, as his father was not wanting to go and buy his son a pack of cigarettes. In a fit of anger, this young adult, stole a truck and took off. The father called the cops to teach his son a lesson. The cops spotted the truck, and we can only imagine that they turned on the lights and gave chase, as the 19 yo ran, and did not pull over. According to the article, the 19 yo hit a cop car and the officer drew his weapon and fired 6 shots, striking the young adult 2 times and killed him. Now the father is upset and people are claiming the cops are out of control.

Now does anyone else see the problem here, and it is not with the police. The first problem is that the police are there to do a job. They are not there to teach a lesson. That is not their job, it is not their job to step in when a parent is not being a parent and be a surrogate parent for anyone one. Most have their own families to deal with, and their own children to raise.

This 19 year old male, no one put a gun to his head, or forced him to take the truck and drive recklessly. No one forced him to keep driving and not pull over, nor did they force him to hit a police vehicle. What would have the public reaction had been if he had hit say a car and killed a child, or a grandparent or hit a person walking down the road? Would we had been upset if he had hit the officer with a vehicle, using it as a weapon? And what about the officer? Do you not think that his family would have been equally devastated if he was killed by this person?

As I recall, and have double checked, in the Bible, taught by most who practice the Judaism faiths, one of the big sins is you do not steal. And the punishments for such are very server. And what was the father thinking was going to happen to his son, when the police picked him up? A slap on the wrist and then let go? No, in most states, once you call the police to report a crime, if the evidence is there, it is picked up by the DA and the state. There would have been a trial and ultimately, this person would have ended up with another charge on his rap sheet, and would have problems in the long run dealing in a society that is not so forgiving for those who are convicted.

There is enough present to suggest that there has been problems with this kid that has been around for years. And the parents did nothing to help him out, or get him help that he needed. And that is the sad part. Had this kid survived, there are other questions that come to mind, if he reacted this badly when told no, what would he had done if say the next girl told him no, rape her? Or would he go off and be violent against a clerk who would refuse him a sale cause he tried to purchase age restricted product and cannot afford to lose their job?

Now for all of those who think that they should have arrested this kid, the question that many are asking is how do you stop a truck, that weighs any where between 2.5 and 6 tons of vehicle? If you think about it, that means anyone or item hit by such a vehicle, (using the 2.5 ton weight) would be hit with over 120,000 pounds of force, serious injuring an innocent person if not killing them. And the 19 year old, if he hit something it would be very serious as he could have killed himself as well.

I do not blame the police, I blame the parents for this.

Am I reading this wrong? Doesn't it say the kid rammed a car of the police officer? I would think I would feel threatened if I were a cop and that happened to me........

Unfortunately, a car can be considered a lethal weapon.

Especially when you ram a police car and rev up the engine when told to turn it off.

I am thinking that this was overkill (please pardon the pun) for sure. But it begs the question why did the kid run and hit the cop car?

I can't even imagine running from the cops these days. It seems that is all they need to justify ending the run in a hail of gunfire.

Totally agree, the amount of stupidity all the way around is truly staggering. I'm just saddened that he died over a 10 dollar pack of butts.

He died because he acted like a moron. He ran from the cops for a reason. Sorry, but cop or not, someone tries to ram me with their truck, they're getting shot. End of story. Some of you people seem to forget that the cops are humans too.

Go to desmoinesregister.com. There are a few videos of the incident.

In one vid he must hit a tree....but if the tree was not there he would have ran over one of the cops.

Thanks man. Yeah, I can totally see shooting him now. Little jackass was way worse than I thought. He was out for blood. I would have preferred it if they had corralled him, but they weren't going to be able to and letting him drive off would have been incredibly dangerous to the public. He wasn't just trying to bump cop cars to run, he was doing it to hurt.

I feel like a complete jackass for not being able to find video, but in my defense I DID say I needed to see video before I came to a conclusion. For some reason the first link just went crazy pants on me with ads and redirects. I TOTALLY DON'T have adblocker so I WASN'T surprised. *Cough*.

Did anyone else cringe at the driving? On all accounts? Ugh. Not because it was dangerous (the intersection made me pucker) but because everyone from the dumbass in the truck to the cops couldn't take a corner. Dude could have gotten away if he knew how to drive, and the cops could have easily been on his ass enough to take him out.

the video is on the front page of liveleak, titled "POLICE DASH CAM SHOOTING"
the fault is 100% on the 19 year old, he is not a victim...he is a freaking fool! The dashcam shows it plain as day.. the officer was behind the truck at a red light -- radio communications took place and he was informed it was reported stolen, at this point in time he didn't initiate his police siren or get on the loudspeaker to ask him to pull over. the light turns green, both continue through the intersection then about after 10 seconds the truck just takes off like a bat out of hell, without being signaled to stop...so i assume the kid knew he was in trouble and didn't care to stop, so a crazy wreckless high speed pursuit takes place which leads you to another intersection shortly after in the video where this truck flys through a red light and narrowly misses a few innocent drivers going about their business. Now this is bad, but so far it's just the original theft complaint and wreckless driving -- that happens, people get charged with this all the time!
Now this darwin award candidate thought it would be a stellar idea to put his truck in reverse and smack the cop with the trailer...officially hit and run on police/assault on a officer...pick your poison it's not good!
Obviously that did nothing except ESCALATE this situation into a very dangerous high tension fiasco, then we fast forward a bit through my dramatics and the kid drives onto a college campus in and out of trees across sidewalks where he makes contact with the police cars a few more times and ends up being shot twice.

sorry folks, it's almost 2014 and this is certainly not Grand theft auto: real life version

cops were justified in using force to protect themselves and the community.

Look I'm not a huge fan of police, but I don't think the kid was being very smart with his actions.

Yeah, and you know, it COULD be that happened.

On the other hand, maybe the cop tried to pull in front of the truck and the kid couldn't stop. The cop car got hit, bang bang bang.

It would be interesting to see the dash cam video. If it never comes out, well, the kid probably didn't "ram" the cop car.

eta: no wonder the old man called the truck in as stolen. The kid's a loon.

For those of you who insist on defending the indefensible, there is a "shoot to kill" order in place that is coincident with the growing emergence of a police state in America, and those of you who oft times declare that these kinds of events are rare I will tell you THEY ARE NOT RARE. They have been happening with a frequency that is extremely alarming. The police forces in America are a direct threat to our democratic way of life and their Gestapo actions are reminiscent of the police state that was in effect during Hitlers "War on Terror" which became his "Reign of Terror."

But such a thing can't possibly happen here! Right?

That's not true at all. This isn't indefensible.

The reality is that some people will never admit that a policeman acted with reasonable force. And when your life is threatened, lethal force is reasonable.

What makes me frown is that these heroes put their lives on the line for people who hate them. I wish there was some sort of opt out so that people who are so anti-police could live without the benefits the law provides.

So when someone steals your car, or punches your lights out or burgles your home, you have nobody to call for help. Wouldn't that be something?

It's a horrible idea to run from police in general, and an even worse idea to assault a police car with your truck. Take that back. A STOLEN truck.

Poor choices were made on both sides which led to bad results. If you can't "believe" that, something's wrong with you.

So the question is, to the father, did you learn the lesson?

DONT CALL THE COPS!!!!!!!!!!

Calling in a hit squad of insecure self-medicators with PTSD is never a good idea unless you need a hit squad of insecure self-medicators with PTSD.

I cant be mad at the cops for what they did. They did what they do. This is what cops do.
I can be mad at the parent who thought bringing cops into his personal situation was a good idea. Even a "cute" idea.

You call the cops somebody is going to die. Stop treating them like they're good 'ol boys here to lend a hand because they aren't.

This story should be plastered all over the MSM.

It's time we stop wasting energy on nonsense like police reform because that will NEVER happen. We need to accept what they are and use them (or completely ignore them) as what they are.

Wild animals roaming the streets looking for flesh to feed on.
Dont feed the bears. Dont go harassing the lions. But if one backs you into a corner by all means put it the # down.

Yeah, what you said.
To the letter too.
Stolen car, car chase, disregard of others safety, threatening with a vehicle and purposeful collision.
Good thing this kid did not have time to make offspring.
I would have dumped a mag into him as well.

The other night, my sister and I were on the phone when she heard someone breaking into their shed in the backyard. Her husband said, "whatever you do, don't call the cops, they might shoot us instead of catch the robber". He let their dog out and it scared off the person.

To me, most of the police now days are militarized, mentally ill, and corrupt. I thank God that our two sheriffs in my locale are none of these things and I hope it stays that way.
