Also sorry to be contentious - BUT - HITLER or his pan European German plan - did succeed. They won - playing the long game..

We the allies did LOSE the war - I am sorry to say.

Please note Western, Northern and Southern Europe is now run and 'managed' by Germany.

All hail Angela Merkel a true patriot !

What if Hitler had gone ahead with his plans and succeeded? .…

Then England would have lost her sovereignty and all our laws would be set by the Germans and the French.

So the main difference would be that we would have full swastikas as an emblem, instead of just the outline in little yellow stars on a blue background.

Well operation sealion, the proposed invasion of the British isles, was farcical at best, the German army had no specialised invasion vessels upon which to call, opting instead to cobble together a motley collection of river barges .There were no specialist beach-masters(which the allies found invaluable during overlord) and the German navy had very limited resources available to act as protectors of the invasion fleet after their losses during the Norwegian campaign.

Assuming that Goering's Luftwaffe had overpowered the RAF during the Battle of Britain, thereby giving the German's air superiority, there was still the Royal Navy to contend with, then the world's most powerful fleet, additionally British experiments on setting the sea ablaze at any invasion landing point were extremely fearsome.Add to that,Churchill's secret army of trained guerrilla fighter's who would have wrought havoc on any German's making it ashore.

Yeah I always though to myself that the RAF wasnt the last line of defence.

I mean what would the RN have done sit in there battleships while the Germans crossed the channel?

Hitler might have won if he had just not invited Japan along at all. He passed them the ball and they didn't even know how to dribble. The moment they missed the carriers he had to know they were screwed. I can't imagine anyone but drunk Japanese sailors interpreting it differently.

Actually he was delighted that Japan was in the war. He told one of his secretaries that Germany's new ally hadn't lost a war in 1,000 years and that they were bound to win the war now. Oh and he wasn't a naval expert and battleship theory still ruled naval thinking, so he wouldn't have thought anything at all about the carriers being missed. The fact that carriers were dominant didn't become apparent until Coral Sea and Midway.

How dare you. He recently joined Gary Neville, in a joint statement earlier this week, proclaiming their full support for "Movember" even if it would be some decades away before they could both expect to actually take part in the event.

This is an interesting thread, however, it was impossible.

The Royal Navy's only airborne threat was the Stuka. As was seen in the battle of Britain, the Stuka could not operate in anything but total air superiority.

The RN would have mauled any seaborne invasion. If the Germans could even get across the channel they could not have been supplied.

Russia won the second world war thanks to sheer sacrifice of lives but it was Hitler that set himself up to fail by attacking them in the first place.

Once Adolf crossed old Joe Stalin the game was up the Germans tied too many resources up on the eastern front when they should have concentrated on invading Britain to deprive the Americans of a safe haven.

The Germans were working on sea launched V2s towed behind U-boats to attack American east coast cities after the war the German engineers working on the project were rounded up during project paperclip the result of that program was the Polaris missile system.

Very interesting, it's easy to see where Hitler went wrong in hindsight.

Here is my take on how it could of went down.
Had he waited even until 1945 to invade Poland, when his military tech would have exceed all nations.
Then swung his troops west invading Europe, leaving Russia alone. Focusing all his efforts on winning all battles as far as Ireland. Once that was secure, he could have waited until he had a nuke, and nuked Moscow killing Stalin and forcing the Russians to capitulate at least some of there territory. This might put us at around 1950.
Perhaps America would have the bomb as well and so a peace enforced by MAD would take place. The Japanese on the other hand sat out the war against America on Hitlers advise not to attack them, not wanting to give Britain and Europe further support. They did however attack and expand there empire in China and other Asian countries. In 2013 you end up with three major players The Greater Germania which is essentially a greatly expanded Roman empire or the EU, America, and the Empire Of Japan.

Hmmm, not so different than the EU, America and China today.

From my limited understanding of history, Stalin forced his hand. The Communists were planning to invade Germany when Hitler struck first and forced them back. Someone more well-read than I want to back this up or deny it?

And Hitler stupidly misused the V2's engine in ineffectual rockets instead of building a jet plane that would have been the terror of the skies over the English Channel.

I'm afraid that's a misconception. Hitler was always going to invade Russia in 1941. The Soviets saw all the indications of this but Stalin refused to believe that he'd misread Hitler and refused all requests to engage the overflying German aircraft and put the defences on proper alert. He also turned down a plan by Zhukov for a pre-emptive attack. Stalin genuinely seemed to have thought that he could handle Hitler without having to resort to war.

it would all hindge on who got the abmb first. If the you es, then they could dictate the terms. Germany didn't know how to build one so they likely would have been in trouble soon enough.
