I got to hand it to ya with the Days of Thunder clip darling!
A lot of the things, events, and characters in that movie where loosely on actual drivers and some of the events that had transpired over the years
before the movie was released. For example, when it shows them in the pits eating ice cream and Cole wanting some. That actually happened during the
1987 Southern 500 at Darlington involving the Hendrick Motorsports #35 team with crew chief Harry Hyde and Richmond's replacement driver Benny
Parsons.
The scene where Big John told Rowdy and Cole that they were going to drive to dinner together. That was based on an actual meeting that "Big" Bill
France, the Founder of NASCAR and its President at the time, had with Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Geoff Bodine sometime during the 1980s. Plus the scene
where Cole intentionally blows his motor by over-revving it reflects upon an incident at Michigan in 1987 where Tim Richmond was said to have done so.
I mean Robert Redford's role of Harry Hogge, Cole Trickle's crew chief, was based strictly on this man right
here.
