I take the word "Friend" pretty seriously and personally. If I call you a "Friend", then you should also know that I consider you my brother/sister and there would be very little I wouldn't do for you. I stay in touch through thick and thin. I think that the friend is used to casually these days. I can't even bring myself to "Friend" a friend as he already knows this.

However, if I could "Pal" or "Bud" you, my list may possibly crash the servers.

I do truly appreciate ALL the members of ATS and the staff and owners that make this site such as it is. Kudos to you all.

Are my self imposed standards to tough? Should I be a little more flexible?

I've been friended here and I do feel humble and honored, but cannot bring myself to do the same for others, no matter how much I like their threads/posts. A part of me feels guilty.

The decision to "Friend" someone is personal and unique to the individual. There is no right or wrong line of thinking on the matter. Don't feel guilty about it at all.

Most of the folks I "Friend" here at ATS I do consider to be part of my extended family while others are on my list simply to be able to follow their threads if I find what they have to say interesting. To each his own I say!

LOL nice post.

I get what you are saying. I feel the same way about the word "love." I hate when people I barely know are like "love ya." I only say that to those I truly do love. It's not a word I toss around.

On here I "Friend" members whose posts/threads I enjoy so I can "stalk" them later on.

I'll be your friend!

I'm also the best kind of friend....

I don't borrow money, will not sleep with your sisters and I own a truck to help you move (Pizza and beer is on you of course)

Peace

I understand what you are saying. It's just a matter or a word having more than one definition. A friend here on ATS is different than the friend who's drunken rant that I listen to at 2:30 am. Blue can be a color, or a mood, etc.

I avoid friending people on ATS for a different reason. It seems whenever I friend someone here, a couple of months later they are either get banned or just disappear. If I like someone's posts that much, I prefer that they stick around.

I have given some serious thought to friending posters I don't like, just to see if they go away.

You're easy to stalk, all I have to do is go to the cooking forum. LOL But I guess stalking some one in their kitchen is kinda dangerous...it's their territory after all.

I tried your tuna casserole recipe and it turned out to be a unmitigated disaster. I'm amazed that the HAZMAT crew didn't show up. (I forgot the timer and inadvertently fell asleep, it took days to remove the smell and thankfully I didn't burn the place down)

Keep those recipes coming, Pal!

For the most part, I use my "Friends List" to honor those who have earned my "virtual" respect in one fashion, or another.

See ya,
Milt

I wouldn't sweat it too much, Rex. Much like Milt, I friend people I tend to agree with often, but that doesn't mean I'm expecting to be on their Christmas card list, or that they should expect to be on mine (it's non-existent anyhow).

I'm sure that occasionally real friends are made online, but for me, it just isn't realistic. Hell, i don't keep friends in real life either. I have acquaintances, not friends, both online and in real life. Acquaintances don't expect to borrow money from you, they don't make promises that you'd expect them to keep, and if they don't keep them, you're no worse for the wear. Friends, real friends, do. They expect to be a part of your extended family; they expect to be invited into your home regularly; They feel that their opinions on issues that you face in life should be taken into consideration; They expect that you'll make every effort to help them move, and so on. Friends let you down, and I get enough of that from family members.

To quote that now-famous lady: "Ain't nobody got time for that!"

I work with a guy who is nice enough, and fun to talk to, but he takes those interactions to mean that he and his wife, and my wife and I are now somehow duty-bound to get together on off-hours. He invites me to his church all the time (after I had already explained to him that I don't attend church, ever).

Putting it bluntly (as I am wont to do), I explained to him that he is not my friend, he is an acquaintance, and should not expect much else to come from when we "pal around" at work.

Needless to say, he was a bit hurt, and if I was actually his friend, I would have felt bad.

Anyhow, if I friend you on ATS, don't feel bad if you don't want to "friend" me back; it IS only the internet after all.
