Good.

Get ready to exercise your 2ndA rights.

Thats disgusting and shows whats wrong with American gun culture

Yeah its good to have guns for proetction.

But you should not want to use them or be eger! Thats a Human life! Yes they may need to be used but only as a last resualt and you should not gte "pleasure" in doing it.

I read that as a bit of a vent of frustration. Although the 2nd amendment was intended to keep government force and power in check, I don't see stopping handouts as a valid reason to pull them out at all.

This is what happens when you create a class of people dependent on the largess of the government and their fellow citizens. When the handouts stop coming, they do not know what to do. Dependency is almost (note I said almostalmost) as bad as slavery.

Drones? Really? Drones?

Do you know the drone/people ratio? And BTW, yes, I can take out a drone. Hell, people in the middle east do it.

As for the cell phone, lots of us don't rely on a stupid cell phone. How the hell do you rely on a phone anyway?

Sounds like even if the do cut it off it will be in November and ONLY for new applicants- the people who already have it might get it until the end of the year?

You are going to have to keep repeating this, if this is the case.

They threatened that here a year ago, that had nothing to do with the shutdown, they threatened it but the funds never stopped.

However, I am afraid that day is coming.

I live in NC, and the worst part about all of it is that NC has many poor and uneducated folks. I live in a county that could possibly see a tremendous amount of hardship. NC used to be so progressive, but since we got a new Governor, he has systematically tried to destroy everything good about this state, then ask for $230,000 for a new 400 square foot bathroom in the governors mansion!!

Pathetic!

One of the most employer friendly states, with higher unemployment, uneducated, and poor workforces now cutting off food stamps. Shocking!

I have a family member that works for a county social services department in NC. Some of the county workers are actually on food stamps, because they do not make enough money working full time to support their kids. When you think about this it makes one wonder if the state of NC enjoys the hand outs it gets from the federal government, and because of this it pays its workers less. It seems nowadays businesses have their hand out more and more looking to the government to support their existence. Instead of doing the right thing and paying people decent living wages where they do not have to rely on government subsidies to support themselves.

Again, I don't see the problem.

Govt programs need to be scaled back greatly.

I point to the Walmart incident in LA as a shining example of what the Food Stamp mentality has given birth to.

I'm not surprised. Welfare is just not sustainable. The government over spent. Too many people got greedy. There is less than nothing left. If cuts have to be made, and jobs that help pay for welfare are cut, then welfare, too will be cut.

I think this shutdown is just ridiculous. Everything is just so messed up. I used to believe that there were clear answers to our problems, but the more knowledge I accumulated, the more my understanding led to the notion that there's no way out of this mess without a whole lot of suffering and chaos.

There are too many variables, interacting with each other, that are counter-balancing each other. Attempt to appease one group of people, and another chunk suffers. There is no win-win situation.

I wanted to discuss welfare, but when I started to think about it, I realized, there is no point to jump in. I could take a short-range, long-range, historical, current... I could take so many different angles to talk about, and each one has fair reasoning. None of them tell the whole story.

The best I can say is that I think it's very unfortunate that we've entered into the state we're currently in, and don't expect it to get any better anytime soon. I honestly believe one day we'll look back on the 20-teens, and desperately wish for those simple disruptions, and pockets of chaos... instead of complete systemic breakdown, and whatever else is to follow.

This is just the whispers of our future demise. It's only just begun.

I am in North Carolina as well, I actually run 2 food related businesses and graciously accept EBT in one of them.

This is the way I see things.

Just because there is a shutdown, DOES NOT mean all of our money just *POOF* disappears. The same money that paid out these benefits last month, will still be here tomorrow, it didnt just vanish. The numbers arent just disappearing off of computer screen balances, or cash vanishing into thin air. People will still be able to work in sectors that are necessary to facilitate trade. Will it be tough on some folks, sure, but humans are decent beings by nature and many do not want to see their neighbor suffer. In fact I am privvy to seeing many of my customers willing to help each other, buying my products for one another (just yesterday a man gave a portion of his goods to a lady that walked in behind him, sure it hurt my sales, but it made me smile both inside and out due to the kindness), I give discounts and products away when I can, and I see people inviting each other over for dinner CONSTANTLY.

That alone gives me hope, its the politicians who are the bad people, not the general population (aside from isolated incidents).

Now on to FEMA camps, unfortunately these camps will be for the poor and unproductive members of society. I do not for one second believe that the government will throw me or my family in a camp, we are productive to them. We pass along our taxes as we are required and we also take care of our fellow neighbors. They cant throw us all in camps, else, how will they be able to continue to function, or there even be a need for the government if some folks arent still out there carrying on their day to day activities.

So, all-in-all it will be tough on a sector of our citizens, but i do not believe that this is the end of the world. Its a tightening of the belt that should have been done LLLLOOOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGGG ago. I just hope the collective will in the end hold the people who are truly responsible for this mess accountable. THE POLITICIANS. ALL OF THEM.

Homo Sapiens have the capacity to adapt to their environment, and take on macro-social strategies to survive on the whole, when the correct circumstances arise, combined with the learned grace of compassion.

It's not inherent in our nature to be "decent". Being "decent" is a culturally relative, human construct which would not be triggered without the necessary nurturing during psycho social development.

Basically, it's not in our "nature" it's in our nurture.

In the context of someone in the UK talking about a claymore and a crossbow, I assumed the traditional highlands sword, but you never know...

I so appreciate the visual in these tryin' times.

With a over 4 feet from pommel ta point,
the bloke is gonna clean out this joint. Christ.
But OMG four and a half or five pounds of economy
sized cutlery comin' forya.. the deer'll die of a coronary
or mighty quick dehydration. If it was me the latter surely.
I'll dry my eyes now, and sincerely-- good hunting to you.
I'll prefer to view the venison grab from a different
ZIP code, ewok. That's a lota Singin' Sheffield.
Amazin' how this post almost made a point.

For the sake of T&C and it being sorely serious besides,
to the OP:
There are a lot of displaced manufacturing people here
in IL who have been fileted by the long downturn,
sequester and now the prospect of everything going away.

My contention is that with most of the people with the
long term government support systems in the urban and
suburbs; pockets of some very nasty violence could erupt
over a total shutdown of only a few days.
I mean take a look at Chicago when everything's covered...

You most certainly don't have what it takes old chap.

How would one defend oneself against a drone?
How would we manage without the mobile phones which would betray our whereabouts and our intentions?
How many new devices might we expect to be introduced to in the event of civil unrest?

Very good questions. Every American should be asking themselves right now

Along with...

If the dollar was to become devalued or even collapse, what would replace money?

That's why my cache had always been more important than how much I have in stocks/bonds and in my savings account.

It's amazing how many people don't know:

1. The 'recession' doesn't exist. It's simply a depression, renamed after the Great Depression because of fears the word depression would panic Americans.

2. That the us gov froze a whole lot of everyday citizens assets during the Great Depression.

3. What the Fed is really about.

It's sad but I definitely think Americans are content with being a nation of sheeple.
