Congress and the President: Just Because You Were Bullied, Don’t Take It Out on Our Seniors
by Karen Higgins

Let’s try to remember a lesson we all should have learned as kids. Just because you were picked on by the neighborhood bully is no excuse to go home and kick the dog or punch your little brother.

How true the above statement is - Does anyone at all dispute the validity of the above statement. If you do I'd like to heard why it is acceptable to attack someone weaker then you in reaction to your own being a victum of such an attack.

I'm not saying that it doesn't happen all the time (as well shall see) but it is not right nor proper behavior nor productive in any way and if you think so please tell us why.

Now for the part that, I predict, will set off all manner of unproductive behavior.

Maybe some inside the Beltway need a refresher course. Just because a handful on the right have shut down government and threatened default on the debt that’s no excuse to embrace proposals to slash Medicare and Social Security.

But that is exactly what is on the agenda, the “compromise” reward for those who engineered the lunacy of the last two weeks with the attempt to reverse the results of last November’s election by refusing to fund government services or pay the debt unless the Affordable Care Act is defunded or repealed.

Ah, yeah...ok...

I'm sorry, this was a systemic breakdown. This was not simply "one hand in one puppet" causing the problem. If you still see this as US vs THEM, boy, are we in different leagues of reality.

This was THE US GOV'T failing US, the American Citizens.

There is, quite simply, no other way to look at it realistically.

The healthcare act will simply increase the nations debt substantially. It is unsustainable. The healthy people will mostly take the tax penalty the first year or two, and the "uninsurable" people will sign up will happily pay the premiums, with outstanding medical costs because they cannot be denied. The system will plummet quickly.

The debt ceiling cannot continually be raised several times a year by billions and trillions of dollars. The "reset" has to come sometime, and now may very well be the time. But, maybe not till next time, in January. Who knows. But it's coming....

My vote is... WE"RE SCREWED.

You are absolutely correct in your assessment of the scenario we currently face.

There is little else to say, I'm afraid. It's time for other things.

Apparently an odd space time anomaly has happened. A double post was detected.

Everything has been corrected.

Does anyone care to comment on the 'Bullying' ?

Or are we just going to do the equally childish 'whoever yells the loudest' thing?

Well. IMHO, there is alot of vindictiveness and stubbornness going on by the way of the President. "I'm gonna get my way or else" going on. We simply cannot continue to raise the debt ceiling. We need to start making cutbacks immediately. Not with necessities, but with excessive spending. Such as all expense paid trips and vacations. With overpaid staff. With overpaid "stuff" such as supplies and repairs. ALL OVERPAID SALARIES, REPAIRS AND SUPPLIES, even to the White House, HAS TO END NOW.

No, this was a few egomaniac tea party whack jobs taking the whole world down, if we default it will lead to world meltdown. Just because you don't like a law does not mean you destroy the country over it. The Republicans have let a few idiots destroy their party. Fact is right now the Americans would throw every single one of them out of office.

Maybe some good will come out of this after all. Like term limits, a strong independent third party, change to campaign finance, change the electorate so that the popular vote wins, ah then we will see change. Lol

With people not being able to use either cards it won't last long now, there will be riots.

Dear FyreByrd,

You've asked a number of complicated questions. I'm not sure I can answer all of them clearly, but I'd like to try. I don't think I'll go in order, allow me to try the easiest ones first.

the “compromise” reward for those who engineered the lunacy of the last two weeks with the attempt to reverse the results of last November’s election by refusing to fund government services or pay the debt unless the Affordable Care Act is defunded or repealed.
There seems to be some serious debate over who is responsible for the shutdown. Rather than steer the thread off into the usual "discussion" (or, more properly "name calling session"), consider the possibility you are putting the blame in the wrong place.

Attempting to reverse the results of the election? Oh my, no. The Republicans are using the results of the last election. The election that gave them a majority in the House and the responsibility for passing spending bills. They're just doing the job they were elected to.

Further, the Republicans are not refusing to pay the debt, they passed a bill requiring the debt to be paid first, but the Senate rejected it. They are also not asking for Obamacare to be defunded or repealed.

Just because a handful on the right have shut down government and threatened default on the debt that’s no excuse to embrace proposals to slash Medicare and Social Security.
A handful? That doesn't make any sense. A "handful" can't do anything, unless you're counting 218 Representatives as a handful.

Just because you were picked on by the neighborhood bully is no excuse to go home and kick the dog or punch your little brother.
You're quite right, but it is an excuse to beat the stuffing out of the bully when you get the chance.

If I'm misunderstanding you let me know, but it seems as though news of the Republican offers has been buried so that you might not have heard of them.

As far as picking on those weaker than you, the National Park Service has been doing horrific things to citizens and visitors. As one of the rangers said, "We've been told to make things as unpleasant as possible for people."

With respect,
Charles1952

I'm not sure you got the cookie that went along with your kool-aid.

I hate to tell you this, but we are experiencing modern day Bread & Circuses. This is simply drama for the masses. Now we need the bread portion of the days entertainment. There is no difference between the two sides, follow the power cords and you'll find the same source.

If you don't agree, I'm ok with that. I'm fine with agreeing to disagree

Dude no need for coolaid, I need a stiff tequila watching these idiots. Have you seen ted Cruz speak, he is the definition of crazy egomaniac, your kidding right. If you don't see that my friend you have already checked out . That guy is scary crazy, I should know I am from Texas, he is a bafoon, a loony tune.

I will agree both side are idiots, what is worse are the ones with the money pulling the strings, they play both sides to ensure they get what they want.

I should also say I am an independent who voted against Obama. We should throw all these yahoo's out. Don't kid yourself, anyone who supports or thinks these guys are doing what they were sent there to do they are wrong. No one sent them there to destroy the country.

There sane ways to do things. You start with congress perks, gyms, flights, all the money they waste and their salaries, they should not be paid. Next start with waste, the govt reads of it, it oozes from every branch of government and every contract. No more pork barrel period, they are both guilty of it.

Shrink the actual government, we don't need it or want it. Start getting rid of big government and guess what you realize we don't have the issues we are. Billions on defense, how much a day just for Afghanistan alone with all the support.

Don't let any of these guy's tell you it's OK what they are doing, it's not.

Ok, this is just stupid. Don't pick on the seniors for the debt crisis, well there is one Major Major problem with that - the vast, vast amount of the debt is needed to pay for services for seniors.

What are the two biggest expenditures by the federal government? Social Security and Medicare - to say leave them out of it is basically trying to deny there is a problem at all. This is political BS to try and pander for senior votes.

Seniors are going to be the most affected when our ability to borrow is cut off. That is not hypothetical, it is not optional - it is just a FACT.

Okay - shut down the military with all their boondoogles and fund OUR RESPONSIBLITIES to OUR PEOPLE instead.

I don't get this - well they are expensive - just let them die attitude.

To not pick a side is to watch a rape and then say:

“Well… all of humankind is evil and sick so why bother to intervene.”

This philosophy of “all the sides are bad” so I don’t have to choose or figure out what is right for me and right for what is best for all

Is lazy, ignorant and makes things easy but it’s not the truth

You choose sides based on issues that revolve around you

I'm not sure I understand you. Here's my problem:

No, this was a few egomaniac tea party whack jobs taking the whole world down, if we default it will lead to world meltdown. Just because you don't like a law does not mean you destroy the country over it. The Republicans have let a few idiots destroy their party. A few members of the House can't do anything. What makes you think that 10, 20, or 30 members can control the 435 member House?

There is no, absolutely no, danger of default. We take in far more in taxes every month than our principal and interest payments. If there's a default, it can only occur if the administration decides not to write the check. The money is there.

Americans would throw every one out? They just voted for them less than a year ago. What evidence do you have for such a sweeping statement? Or are you saying they would throw Obama out? His popularity is at about 40% now.

See why I must be misunderstanding you?
