Iran passes ‘pedophilia’ law to let men marry adopted girls

Iran lawmakers passed a measure — in a bill aimed at protecting the rights of children, no less — that allows for men to marry their adopted daughters, so long as the girls are at least 13 years old.
Children’s rights activists are alarmed, The Guardian in the United Kingdom reported.
“This bill is legalizing pedophilia,” said Shadi Sadr, a human rights lawyer for Justice for Iran, a legal group headquartered in London. “It’s not part of the Iranian culture to marry your adopted child. Obviously incest exists in Iran more or less as it happens in other countries across the world. But this bill is legalizing pedophilia and is endangering our children and normalizing this crime in our culture.”

That's very surprising to me actually. Iran is "what doesn't fit in this picture" in a lot of ways vs. surrounding Arab nations. Their Justice system and laws are among those differences as I've learned, while learning more about them over time.

I wouldn't have expected Iran to let that garbage pass. Saudi? Yeah... Wouldn't surprise me much. Yemen? Well... I just hope goats aren't included. err... nvm.

Any of the Iranian people around here have opinions? There must be a couple?

This has nothing to do with Religion.

There are states within the US that allows children to marry at 14 and there are states that allow cousins to marry.

Must have been invaded by Mooslims, huh?

i dont see a problem. they set the age to 13. that seems to have been humanities normal low age standard for the bulk of history. cultures have always deemed people to be adults by around then.

it seems the real law that im glad they passed. was SETTING the age. instead of letting people help themselves to 4 year olds and such. that seems more responsible what they did.

the whole 18/19/21yo thing (depending what western nation you are) is actually a very recent thing in history. and all of our american dreams, nuclear families, traditional household economies have all proven to fail horribly. arent we so smart and moral.

didnt god (chrsitians and jews) himself tell us to have multiple wives? wives of woman whom havnt yet grown breasts. he gifted us wives, and allowed us to buy them.

but no. we are bad now.

I live in one of these states. In Utah it's legal to marry your 1st cousin, but ONLY after a certain age. I think it's 65+? Not 100% sure on the age limit. They do it for companionship, not as some twisted rural incest law.

Fair enough. Let me ask though, regardless of the reasoning behind the law, if we find it wrong, should we blame the religion of the people?

Hey folks, let's ignore the fact that the American government murders children with drones.

At 13, they are still a child. This is just promoting sick behavior and is unacceptable.

According to the sharia law the legal age for marriage is 14 for boys and 9! for girls,but in Iran the age is 16 for boys and 14 for girls if I am not mistaking...I think Arabs 1400 years ago living in a deserted harsh environment used to be much more developed and a lot more adult than our average 14 years old living in a city today,but that doesn't change the fact that it is wrong for children to marry and have babies of their own.We already have enough immature couples in their 20's and 30's as it is ...Although the laws are passed in Iran but the chances of actual people getting married in that young age are very very slim.

Many countries have different age of consent. I have no opinion on this other than, it is what it is.

if we compare a 13yo in any non western nation to one of our soft lazy immature 13yos. it may be hard to determine that kids age. he was raised with responsibilities and expectations.

in the US, we cant even get 20yos to move out, or start school, or find and/or hold a job.
i guess we can blame all that on bad economy. but then couldnt you also claim that marrying a 13yo girl is contrary? like maybe by that logic, i SHOULD marry a 13yo girl. maybe i will make more money have some retirement.
