According to the Qur'an, men are literally to rule over women, both because of a supposed natural superiority and because men spend their resources supporting women. This passage really makes a woman into property which belongs to a man, and which exists for his use, since he has to pay upkeep.

It's the same way in the bible why do you leave that out? As far as what women are allowed to do depends on the political slant of the nation they are in. Nations like Iran give women more rights than a nation like Saudi Arabia. This is why religion and politics don't mix. Something I don't understand if Islam is so anti women then why are so many women converting? Women are converting at a 4 to 1 ratio.

"The true Muslim woman is always keen to win her husband's love and to please him. Nothing should spoil his happiness or enjoyment of life," says the Sisters' section of Muslimconverts.com. The website also has a section on how the Taliban upheld certain rights of women that are "non-existent in the West".
Saskia converted to Islam 15 years ago during her first year at university. "I did so because I married a Muslim. I can't imagine why women would do it for other reasons."

Secular society proclaims "equal rights" outwardly, but in reality, have reduced women to meat in the market.
And women aren't 'reduced to meat in the market' in secular society. SOME WOMEN DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES to be promiscuous .. and that is their right.

Wrong. Secular society proclaims 'equal rights' and that is exactly what it provides. Unlike Islamic societies that restrict women from driving or even leaving the house without a male family member babysitting. Women can't even get an education .... little girls shot in the head for wanting to read ... Iran now doesn't allow women to get higher education for fear that the woman won't want to get married to men who are dumber than they are.

Secular society = good for women. Islamic society = destructive to women.
Women make up more than 65 percent of Iranian university students with some fields in science and engineering having more than 70 percent of their alumni be women. The opportunities for women education and their involvement in higher education has grown exponentially after the Iranian Revolution. According to UNESCO world survey, Iran has the highest female to male ratio at primary level of enrollment in the world among sovereign nations, with a girl to boy ratio of 1.22 : 1.00.

This has to do with the political slant of the nation not the religion.
Was Islam at fault when women couldn't vote or drive in American?
And you really need to stop the statements that are easily proven wrong.
Education in Iran
Iran, apparently frightened over its female citizens’ growing independence, will begin restricting women’s access to a wide range of educational opportunities. Although Iran was one of the first nations in the Middle East to permit women to study at universities, the BBC reports that over 30 universities have agreed to ban women from about 80 different degrees such as engineering, business, nuclear physics, and computer science (you know, the ones that can potentially steer women toward power and financial freedom). While the government has not released any official reason for this change, Iranian Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Ebadi told the BBC that the restrictions have to do with the government’s aim to “restrict women’s access to education, to stop them being active in society, and to return them to the home.”
Thirty-six universities across Iran have banned women from 77 different majors, including accounting, counselling, and engineering, for the school year that begins on Saturday, Iran's Mehr news agency reported in August.
There was no official reason given for the move, but Iranian officials have expressed alarm in recent months about the country's declining birth and marriage rates, seen as partially caused by women's rising educational attainment in the last two decades.

They decided to be promiscuous because secular society made it possible for them to choose between being a good wife OR living and dressing like a whore.
A Christian government would not have allowed such a thing as a "right".
If she wants to be single and have fun ... she can.
A fundamentalist Christian government would be just as bad as a Muslim government. It would curb freedoms and rights. It would dumb people down and be a disaster.

I don't seem to think its working out too well.
One major challenge that is still not effectively addressed in Saudi society is the lack of public understanding of the Shariah. Many men who are the main perpetrators of violence against women and children believe that they have every right to resort to violent disciplinary beatings, and that they should not be held accountable for doing so. As long as violent behavior is not criminalized, we will never stop the problem of family violence in Saudi Arabia. There is a dire need to correct the misunderstandings of Shariah in Saudi society.
Some extremist religious scholars claim that the Shariah allows light physical violence against wives and children as a disciplinary measure. The definition of what is allowed and what is not remains vague and continues to encourage perpetrators to indulge in physical abuse of family members.
The lack of a strong fatwa that forbids any act of violence against women and children by their so-called guardians is the reason behind the prevalence of domestic violence in Saudi society.
