Fox28 now says someone saw somebody throw something into the sewer. In case of terrorism they have a plan in place and it appears they are playing it out.

Hopefully it's nothing but jitters from too much coffee

That's the second fully armed and suited up tactical team to walk across the 10tv screen in the last moment or two.

That was the team they were referring too on the police channel feed. 6 shotguns, 1 rifle x 2.

I am assuming the left side of the feed is the building in question?

Now that you mention it, they had called two lists of shotguns/rifles. I'd thought they sounded different, but wasn't sure, NOw we see two teams. Hmmm.... Makes sense now.

That's a lot of hardware and manpower. They usually figure they have something to use it against which shoots back, for all that fuss.

Don't tell me someone tried an Oceans 11 stunt on the CPD building or some crazy thing. Or is CPD holding someone particularly high value at the moment? Any terrorist cases?

Pictures on someones phone that might be related to what happened at headquarters.

Let's see if we hear anything else about that.

What is an M40? They are talking about someone using one to check the sewers?

Someone also mentioned taking the guy a second one. Thermal imager maybe? Perhaps a weapon designation?

** Just announced on the Police channel.. clear exterior and lower level. Hmm.. Mentioning the M-40 again and something about an escort? No idea what that is about.

The only m40 that comes to mind is the sniper rifle.

Though i do not think you would clear building levels with one.

M40 is a high powered weapon.

High Powered Rifle

That would be indicative of a hostage situation or standoff IMO.

Living in the area I am familiar with a couple of current events. Just yesterday the Somolian president was holding a conference at The Ohio State University. A townhall meeting discussing a proposed Stand Your Ground Law was being held yesterday or today. Probably not related at all, but food for thought. Columbus does have the second largest Somoli population in the nation......

I've worked with explosives (road blasting)
A blasting cap (used to ignite dynamite) is one loud little mother.
would evacuate the floor of a building and smell like powder..

Level 1 and level 2 have both been declared clear. That goes with the exterior which was called earlier.

Fire Dept

Police

Those are the dispatch channels I have running in the background. They usually aren't so busy as to overlap beyond making out clearly.

Could this be some drill? The scanner feed only has 422 people listening it usually blows up with heavy police activity.

I've been listening to a real scanner since around 8:00 tonight. Currently SWAT and the bomb squad are doing a detailed search inside the building. The first floor was cleared about ten minutes ago. They have already cleared the exterior of the building. Nothing unusual has been found so far.

No one was injured and there has been no property damage reported. Witnesses saw a man throw something in a sewer just before the explosion was reported. CCTV footage from the AEP building and federal courthouse across the street was reviewed but nothing unusual was seen. A man who was on the top floor of an adjacent parking garage was detained and questioned, but I haven't heard anything else about that. A woman called in to the radio room around 10 or so claiming to know who was responsible. Police were going to determine if she had credible information and respond to interview her if so. I haven't heard anything more about her either.

Police still have a large radius blocked off around the headquarters building while they clear the building.

I have not been listening to the scanners and have just come upon this thread now. M-40's could be referring to a firework that is now illegal pretty much everywhere in the US. I used to use them and m-80's in my younger years to blow crap up. Very loud, more than 50mg of powder is packed into them and they make a lot of powder smell when lit.
If they aren't talking about the M40 guns that people here have mentioned then it may have been some wisecrackers with some of these fireworks.

Just a possibility that I wanted ATS to be aware of.

Seems really easy to get them to freak out and be distracted.

I wonder what crime they are commiting while this is going on?

'Fraidy cops.

I live 2 or so hours from Columbus, but have a few friends there. I may ask. To me though it sounds like someone just threw something in the sewer to cause a commotion and succeeded. Firework (maybe they are saying m40 but meaning m80), gunshot, or maybe a guy with meth lab or plastic bottle bomb ditched it in the sewer. My moneys on plastic bottle explosive or firework. Both woukd probably be hard to reconstruct in a sewer.
