Just watched a good vid from the NASA folks about Voyager.
Haven't seen all this in one place, if its already posted then mods please delete.

Here's some of what they had to say.

Voyager is now 11.6 Billion miles from earth. It is travelling at 38 thousand miles per hour (almost 1 million miles per day).

On its journey it discovered 23 new moons in our solar system.

Its headed for a star (AP+793888) and it will take it about fourty thousand years to get there. When it arrives it will do an orbit of the star and then continue to orbit the center of our galaxy for ever!

Voyager has a total memory size of just 68K. Thats enough ram for a basic ats avatar!

Voyager transmits its signals to earth with a 22 watt transmitter. When the signal reaches earth its strength has fallen to just one tenth of a billionth of a billionth of a watt!
It takes the signal 17 hours and 22 minutes to reach earth.

Voyager has enough power left to operate the Fields and particle instruments for another 7 years. After 2020 instruments will be turned of one at a time to conserve power.
In 2025 all instruments will be turned off. There will be enough power left for another ten years but only engineering data will be sent back to earth.

I tried to sit and think about Voyager's 40 thousand year trip to that star. Human civilization has only been around for a fraction of that time. I can't even begin to think what humanity will have done by then. And its a very humbling thought that we lived to experience hearing of the first man-made object to leave our solar system. Here's to hoping for Voyager's safe travels and its testament to humanity's ingenuity and future.

Reading your post made me realise something. Its very likely our technology will advance so fast that we'll build spacecraft that will reach that star before voyager does.

I agree.

And it's only about 300 years from returning to Earth in search of its Creator.
