Why do some of you sign each post everytime? Why no just use the signature function already provided

I dont do it though I have thought about it.

When I remember to write it, it all seems silly to me and I erase it.

I guess its no big deal to sign your posts. It is a little arbitrary though.

But If I were to sign my posts I wouldnt use my name. I guess I would just make something up pertaining to the conversation, or what ever.

Many of us need to follow these exact steps to denying ignorance:

Before I join in the discussion on any forum
I have a few rules I've made for myself that
I follow.

First I lurk for a while to pick up the tenor,
and see how overt the conversation really
is.

For instance back in the UseNet Newsgroup
days some conversations had gone on for
ten years, and everything had been talked
about in detail already, so the members
were down to arguing about minute
details.

If someone jumped in (always a new
member) and pointed out the obvious
larger picture, they would be shunned.


Second I try and figure out
who the veterans are and what kind of
clout they have.

Sometimes the most respected member
of a forum posts the least and being
flippant with them can be a disastrous
move.

Nothing worse than a newb talking
down to a respected vet, just because
they couldn't be bothered to read
the F.A.Q.


Third I do a psych profile on the forum
to see what their taboos are where
their sense of accomplishment lays,
and what their blind spots are.

It is the third case that brings me to
the reason I started signing my posts
on ATS.

I noticed several times back in 2009
and 2010 that in a heated exchange
veteran members would win the
argument by saying "Obviously you
don't understand, just read my Sig"
And they would have a signature
that stated their political affiliation
or their pet thread on some con-
spiracy which the person debating
them had obviously missed.

It seems that the largest blind
spot of ATS readers are the Sigs.
People flat out don't read them.
It's just one more thing that gets
skipped over.

Unless they mention their sig
in the post itself.

Also I wanted to make a nod
to the more traditional type
of letter writing style where
people used to sign their names.

I felt that if I did this in the
designated Sig space it would
go unnoticed, and not be
real for me.

By typing out my name each
time I post, it reminds me
to really mean what I'm
saying.

Wan't to really explode? On some forums I have a self-made signature picture WITH my screen name in it and I STILL do it

why? Because it's my way of signing off

The cool part is I don't care if others like it or hate it
