If it were a pejorative term, I could certainly understand.
It is a pejorative term... It may not have started out that way, and it appears there is no real consensus on the origin, but look it up in a
dictionary.
I don't mean homosexual when I call someone a you know what that starts with F, but that doesn't change the fact that it deeply offends some, and
for a long time was used with malice against a certain group. While I believe the meaning has shifted to something else, I still don't think there
should be a team named the San Fransisco F**'s.
I'm all for tradition, and frankly think this whole thing is silly, but redskin certainly was used in a derogatory manner and I understand why some
are opposed to it.
If anything, yes, it probably is more of a compliment and I highly doubt the intent was meant to insult the team or whatever Native Americans are
calling themselves now. I think it's probably time they changed the name though.
I will admit that if everyone was pissed about the name I would be all for keeping it.
