Despite some inherent issues with freedom, it seems that freedom still wins over a gov't putting boots on necks to insure our free nation's citizens (the illusion of) freedom and security?

We didn't get into it, but from prior conversations, I know that he says that our perception of Mexico and the problems there is not much like it actually is.

This would have been a perfect chance for the UN to earn it's place....

If the majority of the world has condemned chem weapons, then those who signed onto that condemnation, should be able to use that leverage to remove those same weapons from nations who did not sign on....

either you are for them, or you are not... if the majority says NO, then the majority should agree to eliminate those who do have them?

What's the UN for, if not for dealing with this stuff?

I recognize their interest in wildlife preservation, water quality and all that stuff, but come on... resolve these conflicts before it results in WW III.

I had issues following 9/11with growing distrust of the public and the US citizenry by the government and its increasingly militarized civil police forces. It is the privacy and personal freedom I found here in Mexico that keeps me here and not wishing to ever return to the US.

Yes! Freedom wins.

No, living here is not like you would read about in the papers and see in the media. Bad things can happen here in Mexico, just like they do in Chicago and other US cities. It's a bit like the pot calling the kettle black.

Freedom wins. Oppressive government cures nothing.

It's like survival - knowledge and skill trumps tools. Community trumps them both. You already stated the key element for building community.
