Yes, it was similar to the Hot Pages page, only it was a long page and it had columns that went all the way down about 2 feet. It was far easier to read or skim through and it listed more than a few topics for each hour set.

It also didn't auto refresh. Which was part of it's greatness.

Is anyone having trouble actually posting a new thread? I have been lurking this site for about a year and of course when I finally decide to make an account and post, it takes me to another blank page with the rest of the ATS site loaded. Running on Chrome. Quite frustrating

Unfortunately, it looks like the list of issues -- some which are oddities specific to migrating the new site to a multi-server environment -- are approaching a volume that is too high to correct in a live environment.

We'll be rolling back to the prior version shortly.

sorry

Excuse me for not thumbing through all the comments, and great job on the layout, real nice

how does one find a specific post ? I mean I can navigate to a general page of my past posts but wont "land" on the exact post
(having difficulty even explaining it)

Would this be why all of the sudden today I had the "new" version and and in the process of going from pg 1 to pg 2 of a thread I had the old version all of the sudden?

You have nothing to be sorry about. As that comedian on TV says you will "Get r done".

Massive undertaking.

Sorry to hear you're having problems. I for one am happy to get to use the old site for a little longer

It seems a lot of what's going on in the industry is developers trying to find a common codebase for different things. For example, software makers are trying to find a common codebase for desktops and portables. This is why so many websites are adopting more portable-friendly features. The reason they're searching for a common codebase is to save time and money so there're not extra codebases.

See the same thing in games being made for consoles and desktops. Instead of making one codebase for the desktop and one for hte console, they basically make the same for both. Granted, the codebases aren't exactly the same, but they're as close to similar as possible.

They'll keep what works and discard what doesn't. This is how I see it. What makes it hard is that the input device and screen size have such a huge impact on the interface.

My opinion with the new site was I liked the older one more. However, the newer one scaled better with increasing resolution and, of course, loaded faster and and worked better on portables.

I do also like the coloring and contrast of the older one much more. Too many icons on the newer one as well. I understand icons are easier to show on portables, but it's crazy.

I think if there could be a desktop-style configuration it'd work fine. There just needs to be a way to increase the amount of information on the screen and decrease the amount of empty space. And then if you can add some more colors to distinguish different things it'd be gold.

Overall, I'm not a fan of the attempted merging of desktop and portable graphical user interfaces. I don't use any portables and I do not like the big flat icons and empty space and especially hate win 8 metro. OMG, don't put me through that again. I tried the apps and it nearly killed me. Microsoft screwed up. However, I see the value in having a common-ish codebase rather than two separate ones.

I for one love the new website design, its so much more modern, keeping up and exceeding other website designs.

The old site is getting old and stale.

And Skeptic dont fret over the trolls, there will always be those who will complain, even if its something as minor as changing black to a different dark shade.

The thread-view spacing has been tweaked a bit, mostly within the mini-profile area. Now, the new ATS.5/3 site uses about 2% less vertical space than the old ATS.2010 site.

Looks good. I like it. I think people never noticed the thing that bothered me that the post space or signature was huge if it was a short post.. but anyway, I can't wait to get back to it.. I'm already slightly lost on this old version.

Thanks man.

There's a few back-end code issues, unrelated to front-end UI, that didn't/couldn't become apparent until we were running in our server cluster.

I think Monday will be the day for the final, for-good, launch.

New look, old look...
It's gotta be a huge amount of work just keeping this place up and running. So quit whinging when the team decides to slap some fresh paint around.
Those who are going, or threatening to leave over what amounts to cosmetic changes, I just gotta ask:
Did you come here, register, and participate because of the way things look, or because of the sites content?

I'm here to read about others experience, and learn from their knowledge.
The colour of the background dosent effect that one.bit...
